SET stands for Second-Generation Educators Training

As you know, the SET program is a new initiative of the ESGD to create a 1-year full time mission program which is focused on training 2nd Generation Educators and to support the youth of our movement.

To help you decide whether this would be the right choice for you, we want to share an outline of our vision of the program. At the same time, we are pioneering new ground and are open for your input and proposals.

We are also looking for staff, so if you have previous leadership experience, perhaps you would be interested in applying as a staff member.

The program in a rough overview

Kick-off workshop

We will start with the kick-off WS starting 4 October 2006 in Camberg, Germany. The workshop will be a time where participants can learn about the vision for the SET program and set goals that they want to accomplish for themselves as well as for the European 2nd Generation. The Kick-off WS is also the time to build a strong team with a family spirit (this year we want to limit the number of participants to 14 to keep the program small). The workshop will include lectures, presentations, discussions, life testimonies of participants, team building, outdoor activities, sports etc.

FR Training

After the Kick-off WS we will lay an internal as well as financial foundation for our work throughout the year through a period of fundraising. This time is also very precious in terms of your individual development of character, your relationship with God, and, of course, experiencing teamwork. All the funds we need for our work, we will have to raise ourselves. Therefore, we will discuss the financial situation and possibilities of the program together.

Winter activities

We will be going to support different National HARP winter workshops around Europe. This will give you a chance to observe the national HARP situation and build up a connection to them. This is also an opportunity for you to take care of your younger brothers and sisters. Hopefully, you will inspire them through your sharing of your experience on SET. After that, there will be the European HARP leaders meeting, which SET will join for some time to connect to the international situation of HARP across Europe.

Service project and witnessing experience

After the national winter workshops everyone will gather again for a workshop and the start of the 2nd phase of the program. After that, you will experience a service project, and will receive training in how to set up a service project by yourself. In addition there will be a period of witnessing, which will most likely be in East Europe.

Next step - focus on your expertise

Training

During that time, we will start to build external leadership skills. (2nd phase of the program).

There will be some general education in time management, organization, budgeting and other leadership skills. In addition, you will learn about how to educate youth properly by understanding the mentality of youth and different educational strategies.

Your Project

At this time everybody will choose (together with the SET staff) a field or project to specialize and focus on. Then, as other activities are going on, you will be responsible for working on your project. The rest of the year will be used to make this project a real running activity for Second Generation. This project could be the support of HARP or Jr. STF, the preparation of the European Summer Activities, it could be to provide Service projects, to become a professional lecturer and to give lectures at various opportunities, to create a European Second Generation Magazine, website, etc. In some of these fields the ESGD will be able to support you, for other fields we will connect you to a person or to materials so that you can learn more about your area. In addition, we will stay in touch with you about the progress of your project.

Execution of the project will be either a team effort or individual, depending on what you choose to do.

We are excited about your ideas for projects, because the success of the 2nd phase of the program depends on your input.

There will be one more FR condition before the summer activities. SET might be also mobilized to support the next world tour of True Parents in Europe, in this case you would have the chance to participate at one or more of the events.

Summer Activities

In the summer we will all come back together to support the different ESGD Summer Activities in a leadership role. We will conclude the program with a workshop after all of the ESGD Summer Activities are over.

The goal is that you will continue to run your project after the program is finished.

Through the SET program we hope to offer substantial support to our younger brothers and sisters and to teach about leadership and ownership in a very practical way.

We are looking forward to your application. If we approve your application, we will send a confirmation.

SET stands for Second-Generation Educator Training.

It's a new one year full time program, which will start for the first time on the 4th of October 2006 in Europe.

What is SET?

You may have heard about SET, or read something about it. Here you can read more about it. We put together a few FAQ (Frequent Asked Questions) about SET.

SET stands for Second-Generation Educator Training. Itīs a new one year full time program, which will start for the first time on the 4th of October 2006 in Europe.

Why do we need SET?

As you well know there is the STF training program which already exists for 6 years in Europe. However Hyun Jin Nim directed to have several full time education programs for Second Generation in addition to give more opportunities. Especially he emphasized to have a general program, as STF is more focused on raising leaders who can lead the providence, especially becoming CARP center leaders. SET is an initiative to realize Hyun Jin Nimīs direction to start an alternative general program to the existing STF program. With the SET program all Second Generation can have a life of faith training and actively participate in the providence.

Who can do SET?

SET is first of all for Second Generation who graduated from High school and are 18 years and older. We expect participants to have a desire to do the program and be interested in working with Second Generation and our movement.

It's also possible to join the program as staff member from the beginning, but this requires previous training experience. Please contact us if you are interested in that. We are still looking for Supporters.

What does the program include?

We want the participants to gain a variety of experiences through different activities of our movement. The program will include:

- Fundraising training

- Supporting National HARP workshops all over Europe and the European Summer Activities

- Service projects and service learning

- Witnessing experience

- Workshops and education on: Divine Principle, Culture of Heart, Unification Traditions, Current Providence, Management skills (how to run workshops, setting up a financial plan for activities, etc), Matching and Blessing.

- Second Generation Educator training, to get training in all of the activities of the Second Generation Department: Junior STF Field Educator training, Blessing workshop training, understanding HARP as a youth education movement, and so on.

Are there any other alternative programs?

There are a few alternative programs in America in response to Hyun Jin Nim's direction. NLTP - National Leadership Training is a full time program that can be done in 6 months.

BCP - Blessing and College Preparation is a one-year full time training program.

How to prepare for it?

After applying you will receive a confirmation letter and further information. However, it's important to prepare yourself for being away from home for a whole year. Practically it will be necessary to arrange things legally and prepare already before hand for your school year or other plans after SET, as well some kind of insurance for the year. You should also prepare internally to have the right mindset to commit to the program fully.

Is there a fee?

The participation fee is Euro 500,- for the whole year. Think of ways how to raise this fee by yourself as kind of condition, rather than just to ask your parents for it. It should be paid at the Kick-Off WS.

Who is responsible?

It's a program run by the ESGD and underlies Hyun Jin Nim. The program will be organized and run by Emanuel Bauer (emanuel@esgd.org) and Geros Kunkel (geros@esgd.org).
