The Words of the Becker Family

Report on Sweden at the Second European Conference

Friedhide Bachle [Becker]
October 31 -- November 2, 1970
Essen, West Germany

The mission began on 5th December when Paul and Chrystal brought me to Stockholm. For three months I worked and lived with a family outside of the city. During this time I often prayed a great deal for Sweden at the Holy Ground, it was difficult to obtain work. After three months the Father led me miraculously to a room in the middle of Stockholm near the Holy Ground. I have concentrated on learning the Swedish language with six hours of lessons each day.

It is very difficult to obtain a work permit and it will probably take 18 months so meanwhile I work as an au pair, looking after children.

So far I have been building up good relationships with about seventy people and witness on the street. I have joined a Methodist Choir where I sing every other week. The country is Socialist with Communists in the government and Lenin is the idol of many students. Every four weeks there is a big demonstration. I found a small anticommunist movement which prints a small magazine.

Mutual Trust it of great importance to the people. The Swedes are used to foreigners taking away their money and studying cheaply. They like people to be interested. They are curious about me politically. I am looking forward to returning to Sweden.
