The Words of the Flynn Family

Reflections On 4th of July

Dear Bro/Sis,

Following are some thoughts for your consideration on this Fourth of July. If your time is limited, please do at least read the attached document it contains some excerpts of True Father's profound words about America. Click here to read the attachment.

Much can be said on a day such as this, the 230th birthday of our nation of America. It has often been an occasion for leaders to reflect on our founding ideals – and to inspire, encourage and even chastise Americans on that basis. As we reflect on this day, we have much that we can be proud of as Americans, and certainly much to be grateful for. At the same time, we all know that our nation faces serious difficulties and challenges, both internally and externally.

Certainly this is a momentous time – the time of the True Parents, who have proclaimed the "Age After the Coming of Heaven". Just weeks ago, on June 13, True Parents completed the historic opening of the Cheon Jeong Gung. And we have begun a time of transition for our movement in America, calling us to renew ourselves and rededicate our efforts, that our nation can fulfill its historic responsibility as "elder son."

Our path is a long and challenging one. Many of us have been going this way for thirty years and more. Some have become tired or disillusioned along the way. Some have stepped to the side, but still holding the vision and dream. At this significant turning point for the providence in America, God and True Parents are calling to all of us again. Who are the Americans who can step forward to lead our nation to the fulfillment of its promise?

The American character is resilient and strong. Douglas MacArthur once said, "Americans never quit." However it is vital that our vision remains fresh. MacArthur also said this:

People grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up interest wrinkles the soul. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair.

We are now called to a new seven-year course for America. As we consider this, it is important to begin by reconnecting to the vision for and purpose of our work in America. This is an especially appropriate endeavor for the 4th of July. The best way to do that is through Father’s words. Father has shared deeply about America on so many occasions. Please consider the excerpts in the attached document.

Many of us are now in our 50’s, and perhaps beginning to consider "winding down". But from Father’s perspective, we are in the prime of our lives. One important point to consider: Father himself was 52 years old when he began his 34 years of effort in America.

The forty-day period that began on July 2nd is a very critical time for our American movement. It is a time for us to reflect, repent and seek God’s guidance. Most importantly, it is a time for each of us to reach beyond our own limited perspective and genuinely ask the question – what is God asking of me for this time?

May God bless you and your family.

Sincerely,
Jim Flynn
