The small group that meets in my house every Thursday evening for study and discussion recently concluded a 5-part series investigating the first chapter of Unification Thought. A few weeks ago, in the middle of one of our discussions, our Vietnamese sister, Hien, expressed her desire for us to experience her native country's food. Taking up the offer, we agreed to celebrate the conclusion of this study series with a meal prepared by Hien in place of our usual Thursday evening meeting.

Arriving at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, Hien began preparing the meal in my family's kitchen having brought all the fresh ingredients from central London. She spent more than four hours preparing a traditional Vietnamese dish called Ph?.

Just before 8 pm the other guests arrived, Chris M, Chris C and Tomas. We were quite privileged to welcome Tomas back to our group: He was the most regular participant while studying in London last year before returning to Prague. He was stopping in London for only one evening delivering some artwork as part of his job, but it provided an opportunity for our small group to be reunited with one of our dear brothers.

Coincidentally, Tomas knew the dish that Hien was preparing -- there's a restaurant not too far from where he lives that serves it -- and apparently it's one of his favorite meals!

The dish -- a soup with glass noodles, beef and various vegetables -- was really tasty, and surprisingly filling. We spent a couple of hours sharing about various things (which included a discussion about a contraption for dunking biscuits). Hien must have invested her whole heart and soul into the meal, as she had to take a rest on the sofa with a mild headache, so I don't think I can begin to express my thanks for her incredible effort!

We will begin a new study course on Thursday, a 9-week course on the Beatitudes taken from smallgroups.com. It will be an experiment to use this new study guide. Part 1 this Thursday will be about "How to Find True Happiness"; I'll let you know how it goes.
