Note

* The solar calendar depends on the position of the earth on its revolution around the sun, which takes 365 days to revolve. The lunar calendar is with the cycles of the moon phase, which takes 29.53 days every time. The solar calendar indicates the changes of weather, which are caused by different amounts of sunlight while the lunar calendar is connected to earthly things such as plant life, the oceans, and our human body. Therefore, it can be said that the former is celestial and the latter is earthly and both are important for human life.

One cycle of the solar calendar takes 365 days and the lunar calendar takes 354 days for 12 months (29.53 X 12), and therefore there are 11-day difference between the two. By having a 13th intercalary month in a year 7 times every 19 years, the lunar calendar can go in accordance with the solar calendar. This is so-called the lunisolar calendar, which can indicate both the phases of the moon as well as the seasons of the solar year. (China, Korea, and Japan used this until 19th to early 20th century. The Islamic calendar is based purely the lunar calendar.)

True Father began to speak about this calendar, changing its name to the "천력 (cheon-ryeok)/ 天曆 / Heavenly Calendar" in 2010 when he also started to proclaim the firm settlement of the True Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind that signifies that True Parents (earthly) embodied the ideal of God (celestial).

This year we have the 13th intercalary month and we have the third month twice. Therefore, Apr. 21, 2012 is the first day of the third month again.
