Diesa Seidel, daughter of Dr. Dietrich and Mrs. Elizabeth Seidel has
become a star of the Mid-Hudson Valley sports scene. On December 12th,
she scored 20 points in the first half of a Red Hook High School basketball
game and so passed the 1000 point mark for her high school career. She is
on target for the school record total of 1,378 points. She was voted the
New York State Class B player of the year last season by the New York State
Sportswriters Association as she led the Red Hook Raiders to a 23-1 record
with their only loss coming to the eventual state champions. As a junior,
she averaged 20.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.4 blocked shots
per game. The 6-2 center plans to attend Marist College in Poughkeepsie
next year on a full scholarship. Diesa's high school coach spoke of her
in glowing terms to the Daily Freeman. "She is a very unselfish player
who leads by example with her hard work ethic which is exactly what you
want as a coach," he said.
