Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

In the first few years, missionaries had suffered difficulties because of language barriers in communicating with local people. In the early days, they focused on teaching Principle and witnessing. Members managed to make a living by selling candles. In 1979, Cote d'Ivoire became the regional headquarters of West Africa. A car repair business was set up in 1983 to make funds for church activity, and a hamburger restaurant was remodeled. In addition, a school for disabled people was established in 1985 and continues today.

In October 1994, a historic event occurred: Missionary Soo-young Kim, regional director of West Africa, was crowned King of Yamoussoukro, the nation's capital. Missionary Kim was awarded with the title of King by the chief, mayor and citizens here in honor of his efforts to develop the city and for spreading a message of world peace.
