Afghanistan

Missionary activity began in 1975 with the arrival of German missionary Willi Lichner, American missionary Jeffrey G. Tallakson and Japanese missionary Makoto Shigehiro. The American and German missionaries went back in 1978 and the Japanese missionary continued witnessing activity for fourteen years until 1988.

During the time that communism has controlled this landlocked country, more than one million people have died. At least 25 percent of the population are refugees. The missionary's three children were all born here. Since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, his family witnessed tragedy every day. During this missionary period, his wife could never go out to the park. If she went out at all, it was just to a market, in the face of danger, to buy necessary provisions for the family. In the end, due to her health, the family had to return to Japan.
