The Words of the Balcomb Family |
Dr. Michael Balcomb has become Executive Vice-President of HSA-UWC America, effective September 30, 2012. Dr. Balcomb will begin serving immediately under the American President and CEO, Rev. Hyung Jin Moon.
Dr. Michael William Balcomb was born in Nigeria in 1957, educated in England, and joined the Unification Church in California in 1976 while on holiday in the United States prior to studying medicine at Oxford University. Changing those plans, he moved to New York for the Washington Monument campaign and thereafter worked on MFT in the USA for three years before returning to Great Britain.
After more fundraising and business missions in Europe, Dr. Balcomb became the British CARP leader. In 1989, following the World CARP Convention in London, he began working with PWPA and taught seminars in the newly-liberated East European nations and later in Russia. He returned to the United States in 1992 to attend the Unification Theological Seminary, graduating Master of Divinity in 1994.
Dr. Balcomb worked with World CARP in New York for several years after graduating from UTS and was later Executive Director of Service for Peace, USA. For the past seven years, he has served as Communications Director of the Universal Peace Federation International, in Tarrytown, New York.
In 2009, Dr. Balcomb became the first graduate of the UTS Doctor of Ministry program, and he now teaches courses on Interfaith and Ecumenical Dialogue to new doctoral students.
Dr. Balcomb was blessed in the 1982 6,000 couples Blessing with his wife Fumiko and they have five children -- two girls and three boys -- aged from 25 down to 15. Their family lives in Ossining, New York.
