A Really Good Chung Pyung Packing List (for women)
Gwenn Bair
May 18, 2001
Hooded Light Jacket (nights and mornings are cool)
Raincoat (preferably light and breathable for mountain-climbing)
Umbrella (a must)
Walking shoes (preferably ones without laces - too time-consuming)
Light dress shoes for use with Holy robes (not urgent)
10 panties
10 socks
2 stretch pants (thin fabric best for Ansu. Capri's okay - room gets HOT)
4 white shirts (words or pictures on t-shirts are okay)
Holy Robe (may use more than once)
New (not required but nice) underwear and white socks and gloves for ceremony
Nightie
Simple jewelry and lipstick - nice for ceremony or photo with DaeMoNim
Small Flashlight (to avoid stepping on your sisters at night)
Soap (liquid biodegradable for body and laundry, such as Dr. Brauner's)
Tweezers
Nail Clippers
Tissues
Sanitary supplies, especially panty liners
Tums
Herbal laxative, such as DC-1's (many have constipation problems there)
Cough Syrup (you'll be glad you brought it after about 2 weeks)
Cough Drops such as Halls or Ricola
Advil
Hairbrush or comb
Toothbrush, toothpaste
Baby wipes or towelettes
Deodorant
Thin Towel
Plastic bags, variety (for laundry, shoes, whatever)
Sunscreen (?)
Water bottle (small okay, because good water is now plentiful)
Required books (just 2 of the ones given by Father on his 80th birthday):
1. Brown - The Completed Testament Age & Ideal Kingdom
2. Blue - Blessed Family and Ideal Kingdom Volume I
Pens, notebook
Radio and headset for non-Koreans
Little backpack or bag to take everywhere (carry headset, tissues, valuables like $)
Shoebag (plastic or other - it's recommended to keep shoes with you to avoid loss)
Pledge card
A few clothespins
Envelopes for offerings (at least 12)
Travelers checks and US and Korean cash are accepted in Chung Pyung (my suggestion: $1000 fee, $200 spending money, and plenty of donation money)
A few addresses and phone numbers
Airline ticket
Passport
Sheet (Chung Pyung sleeping bags are provided)
Pillowcase
Toiletry bag, waterproof
PS - Try to memorize, in Korean, at least the chorus of Grace of the Holy Garden before you go.
PPS - Suggestion: Pack enough stuff in one carry-on suitcase to make it for a few days. Several sisters' luggage came 4 days late.
