Dear Everyone

A new year approaches and with it the potential for a whole new world of learning awaiting you at Sun Hwa Academy Texas.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I thought I'd send a few to show you what kind of adventures students at Sun Hwa Academy Texas had this semester.

Besides a solid academic curricula for Junior High and High school students, Sun Hwa Academy Texas offers an unparalleled growing experience through travel and public service. Sun Hwa's program is based on Sun Myung Moon's philosophy of education and provides excellent academics and character training that propel blessed youth to become the best that they can be, developing their faith and heart.

This year we took a 4000-mile road trip throughout America's Great Southwest, visiting 8 national parks, including the Grand Canyon, over our Thanksgiving break.

Grand Canyon excursion Nov. 18, 19, 20, 21

Earlier in the year, we did a camping excursion to Garner State Park where the students planned and budgeted the entire trip, cooked all meals themselves outdoors, lived in tents, learned about roughing it and challenging themselves.

The "chuckbox" is a great invention -- its a little pantry that packs neatly away and unfolds into a great kitchen counter, stove, and storage area. We cooked all our meals on it, using a Coleman stove. Everything you see in this picture was thought of, bought by, and brought by Sunhwa students planning the trip.

Garner's rope swings are legendary. Put up by daredevils and swung on by the same, hey provide hours of exhilarating free entertainment for all those who float down the Rio Frio.

Even the day it rained all day couldn't dampen our spirits (thought it soaked our tents and sleeping bags. We just dried them in the laundromat.)

When the sun returned the next day, Garner's rapids provided a free thrill ride for people tubing down the river

Don't be fooled by the fun. It takes determination and a lot of stamina and planning to camp outdoors and totally budget a field trip like Garner. The students do ALL of the purchasing, travel planning, map-work, equipment readiment, packing, meal prep, cooking, tent pitching, clean up, car maintenance -- its a real learning experience and a lot of work to pull it off successfully.

We also helped volunteer to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina during the fall semester, putting into practice a life of service for others through our efforts.

Sun Hwa students pack towels and bathroom supplies for 15,000 refugees housed in the Houston Astrodome

We managed to get 1000 washclothes in this one box!

I hope these pictures are inspiring to you and perk your interest in having your child attend our amazing program.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy God's Day
