My Experience: A Conscientious Effort

As a high-schooler, I lived nearby UTS and attended all of High school in Red Hook, while my father attended UTS and my mother became the secretary to Pres. Shimmyo. The concept of attending was not foreign to me, although I never foresaw value in it. It was my father who confronted my concepts and told me of the spiritual growth and strengthening that occurs here. In college my major was Religion. My intentions were to teach, and my next step after graduation would have been a master's degree in either religion or history. Needless to say, coming to UTS was not that far fetched.
Up until now there has never been such a conscientious effort to recruit Second generation college graduates for UTS and I believe that the investment of the first group of Young Oon Kim scholars is vital to its success. Seeing that the timing was right as I just graduated, I felt like I wanted to be a part of the group that would mold the course and set the standards.
I am also really excited about the potential of this group. My vision belongs more to the time at UTS as opposed to after graduation. I think that a group, however small it may be, can really help the 2nd Gen. movement of America at such a crucial time.
My experience in UTS so far, being here only two weeks, has been as expected for the most part. I am twenty-four years old and for this institution that is quite young. The elder brothers and sisters have really gone out of their way to care of us. They understand the role of elders and have that kind of heart. This is very refreshing, as this is one area which is becoming quite gray, meaning the positions are becoming unclear. Many elders are unsure of how they can care for the younger, weather they are actually able to, or even should.
When you come here I recommend you to bring a friend or two. You can motivate one another in daily life. As for the future, honestly I am not clear; just do my best in the present time I guess.
