SET Changes Concept

What is SET?

From 2006 to 2007 SET (Second Generation Educators Training) ran as a 1-year fulltime training program including fundraising, witnessing, helping at workshops and 3 month supporting in local HARP communities across Europe. It was an alternative program to STF for second generation, who graduated high school.

However due to a lack of staff for next year, it will not be possible to continue SET in the same way. After several meetings and a lot of brainstorming we decided to change the concept of SET.

New concept

The new SET will be called Sunghwa Education Team. It will be a fulltime mission rather than a training program, and it will be run by the ESGD (Sunghwa Department).

It can be considered as the one year of foreign mission that is part of the 7-year formula course for 2nd generation.

SET will consist of around 3-5 people, who will work in the area of HARP and Jr. STF. Similar to the original SET 3 month program, the new SET team will go to the local 2nd generation communities, and as elder brothers and sisters take care of the 2nd generation. This also means supporting the local HARP leaders, as they are often struggling to find a balance between school and HARP work.

The team will have a few gatherings/workshops where they will receive guidance and occasionally do fundraising to support the running of SET and for spiritual foundation.

SET will work very closely together with the SungHwa Department, and sometimes even be called in to help in the office (creation of materials, workshops preparation).

Why do we need SET?

There has never been, as many 2nd generations in HARP age as there is now. It is therefore very crucial that we provide the best care for 2nd generation, as now the help is more needed than ever.

As elder 2nd generation, SET will be able to guide the younger ones in the right direction and help them see themselves in our movement and part of the 7-year course.

Who can apply for SET?

SET is a mission with big responsibility and requires people who are very self-propelled. It is therefore not for anyone. Ideally it is for elder 2nd generation who already have done a fulltime program (e.g. STF/SET) and already have experience working with second generation. However the most important requirement is that the heart really lies in taking care of the youth of our movement.

Anyone who feels a calling for this, please contact Daniel Christensen.

Program

SET will start from October/November in Germany. The details are still not clear, but they will be clarified when we receive the first applicants.

Roughly the program of SET could look like this:

Start with a kickoff workshop (Explaining a clear vision, interest declared)
21 day FR condition (Creating unity within the SET team)
Workshop to prepare for the frontline (practical skills, working group on what we can offer for our 2nd gen.)

From this point on they will be planning their year; calling up nations, visiting nations and staying for longer periods, staff at workshops, creating materials, attending the HARP leaders meetings and prepare for European HARP summer activities.
