The third Wongu Peace Cup Cain-Abel Cosmic Federation Contest (WPCCAFC), which has the purpose of realizing a peaceful world of unity between religions, races and nations held its opening ceremony on the 12th at the Namyangju Athletic and Cultural Center in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea and continued until the 14th, unfolding a festival for the entire global village to become one family.
The WPCCAFC was founded by the Reverend Dr. Sun Myung Moon on April 19 on the occasion of the Rally for the Peaceful Settlement of the Cosmic Cain and Abel Centering on the Parents of Heaven and Earth. The first WPCCAFC was held April 21-25 in Korea with nine types of ball games. The second was held in Spain on July 24 -- August 2 (during the Peace Cup Andalucía 2009). During this third Wongu Peace Cup, not only were the Game of Harmony and Unity, designed by the Reverend Moon, soccer, basketball, volleyball, dodge ball, table tennis, golf and badminton played, but also in consideration of favorite sports of foreign players from Africa, Russia, Europe and other places, track and field (100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m) and martial arts competitions were included.
This contest was held simultaneously in the Namyangju Athletic and Cultural Center, the YongPyung Resort and the Chung Pyung Chung-a Camp Gymnasium. On the 14th, the athletes participated in the Blessing event with over 20,000 people in Sun Moon University entitled: “10.14 True Parents’ Cosmic Blessing Ceremony”.
Around 500 sports players from 11 nations attended the opening ceremony, which was organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and emceed by UPF Korea Secretary General Byeong Ho Son. First, the players entered, followed by the representative prayer by Rev. Yong Cheol Song, continental director for the Unification Church in Europe. Next, Dr. Sun Jo Hwang, chairman of the organizing committee (and president of UPF Korea), gave the welcoming address, followed by the main address by Dr. Jun Ho Seuk, president of HSA-UWC Korea and chairman of the executive committee for this contest. Then, the players gave a pledge led by Su Bin Kwak of Korea and Yukari Ban of Japan. After the vice president of the World Mission Headquarters, Dr. Chang Shik Yang, proclaimed the beginning of the WPCCAFC, a congratulatory performance by Drumket concluded the ceremony.
In his welcoming address at the opening ceremony, Dr. Hwang welcomed the participants with these words: “A world of true peace cannot be realized without the prior recovery of true human character” and “let’s make a global family centering on God through the Wongu Peace Cup, which is a festival of true harmony and peace.”
Dr. Hwang added, “Humanity has seen great material development through science over the course of the last century, but there has been no end to conflict and war, and although some nations are wealthy, others are extremely poor. Through the experiment of the last century, we have proof of the limitations of human beings, so we must now rely on God and go back to the essence of life.”
Dr. Seuk said, “We are now entering an age in which all walls will break down, ushering in a new time of harmony between religions and nations. This event has a cosmic meaning in that it goes along with (God’s) providence.”
Dr. Seuk added, “Now humanity must move forward, create harmony and unite like a round ball. That is the hope of God, who is the True Parent of humanity.”
Moreover, Dr. Seuk said, “Today’s historic Wongu Peace Cup will be a game that creates a true cornerstone for harmony and unity within all Cain and Abel relationships.” He encouraged the players to “compete amid good intentions and share brotherly and sisterly love.”
