Drink Water; You are God's Temple -- Kidney Disease 1974

These were the words of advice my spiritual Mum (Annette Kama ) gave to me as we talked about 'my disease' -- glomerular nephritis (chronic inflammation of the kidneys) -- in Adelaide Australia, when I had been a member of "The Unified Family" for a few months. We were discussing the medications I took for this, and she reminded me that drinking a lot of water is so important to be able to get better.

We are about 70-90% water, and if we become dehydrated we can have great difficulty flushing out the toxins that are naturally produced by our bodily processes. Some say we need to drink 10 glasses a day to be healthy. Less is needed in cold weather.

Over the past few years Ashley and I have noted that those people we know who have being diagnosed with cancer have commented to us that they never drink much water, and/or drink only coffee, or other man–made drinks. I had been diagnosed with this illness when I was 17 at boarding school, and I didn't realize that I had the power to heal within me until I was 24 years old and living in Adelaide again in 1979.

What does water do? It energizes and cleanses the body. It's almost as important as fresh air and sunshine which are the 'positive' (yin) elements required for our body's growth and functioning. Good food and water are the 'negative' (yang) elements. If we drink enough water the energy in our body can flow. Without it, give and receive action stops within us. We become like a stagnant pool…all stinky inside. Our organs and tissues become inflamed without enough of it. Food cannot be processed to produce energy without enough water. It's best drunk in between meals. If you're sluggish, try drinking water. If you find you have hiccups, that's a clear sign that you need more water. If you are constipated, drink more water. Herb tea without sugar counts as water. It's a simple as this: sip, and be healthier.

It's especially important to start the day with water. It's nature's medicine; nature's Champagne even -- the greatest of the beverages!

My kidney disease was healed by 1982, much to the disbelief of my doctor who refused to see me if I didn't take her advice. It took quite a lot of work, and re-educating myself. Most of all it took very positive actions to revolutionize my way of treating my body. I will explain how that happened in the first 7 blogs.

Remembering that I am God's Temple and should therefore take good care of myself, and therefore drinking enough water was the first step.

Note about me:

I was born in Australia in 1955 (currently 54 years of age). My greatest interests in life are music and human relationships. I was the youngest of 5 children -- a very disrupted and complicated family; disrupted by my parents' divorce, adoption of siblings, sexual abuse by an adopted brother, early death of my mother at age 11. Nevertheless I inherited faith in God and a serious desire to help people be better and happier emotionally and spiritually. After leaving my nursing training to join the Unification Movement in 1974, I trained as a massage therapist (1991),an EFT Practitioner (2001), and am Emotion Code Therapist (2010). You might say I am a 'wounded healer'. Perhaps they are the best kind...helps one to have loads of compassion and experience of how hard it is to grow and heal our hearts, and yet how possible it is too! I was Blessed with Ashley in 1982 and we have two beautiful and amazing children: Patrick (18 years old in 2009) and Melanie (11 years old in 2009).
