We hope you will be able to attend a special evening entitled 'Restoring Qalbe Asia, the Heart of Asia -- through cultural appreciation and the rule of law", on Thursday, February 23, at the UPF Nederland Dialoogcentrum, Argonautenstraat 1, 1076 KJ Amsterdam Zuid.
Many see Afghanistan as a hopelessly failed state, inhabited by unstable, deluded religious extremists. However, Rumi, said to be the most widely read poet in the USA today, was a native of this land, and the majority Persian speaking people who live there are responsible, forward looking and aspirational, loving education, kite flying, beautiful music and delicious food. The Taliban are drawn from the minority Pashto speaking peoples, but given a chance, including education, there is no reason why the Pashtun also should not focus their energies on constructive living.
The evening's special guest speaker, General Sayed Hasamuddin Taheri, is dedicated to establishing a proper system of law in his country. He holds a senior position in the central government, and is in contact with the leaders of the main, peaceful, "campaigning within the law", opposition leaders, and was hoping to meet two of them, Dr. Abdullah and Amrullah Saleh, shortly before leaving for his visit to The Netherlands.
In addition to Gen. Taheri's talk, there will be a celebration of the culture of Qalbe Asia, a possible new name for the country: Afghanistan, which has only been the country's name for some 250 years, being inappropriate, since it is Persian for Land of the Pashtun, and the Pashtun constitute some 40% only of the population. UPF Nederland Ambassadors for Peace S.N. and S.E. Taheri will lead this celebration and they hope you will enjoy this taste of their native music and visual beauties -- and food.
Restoring Qalbe Asia, the Heart of Asia – through cultural appreciation and the rule of law a celebration of the culture of the peoples of Afghanistan and an explanation of the introduction of a comprehensive legal system in their land.
Special guest speaker: General Sayed Hasamuddin Taheri, Director General, Directorate of Oversight on Implementation of Verdicts and Detention Centers, Attorney General Office, Kabul, Afghanistan
Thursday, February 23, 20:00 uur; Amsterdam Zuid In the country currently known as Afghanistan, peace is constantly threatened by two major factors: externally, the Great Game still continues, but the Great Powers now include not only Britain and Russia, but in addition the U.S., Iran, India, Pakistan, China; and, internally, ethnic conflict that no one wishes to talk about. Two major elements in overcoming the latter problem are the establishment of the rule of law and an appreciation of the cultures of the peoples that inhabit this land.
General Taheri will report on current efforts to establish a comprehensive legal system; and after the talk and discussion, the audience with be treated to a sample of Qalbe Asia culture, with music, paintings, videos and food.
This evening is supported by the Nasr Foundation, that, in particular supports primary schools in Afghanistan, and the Afghanistan Information Service, that seeks to supply correct information about the history and present day situation in the country. The evening will also see the launching of the Qalbe Asia Peace Herald Tribune, a news and culture publication, and the Qalbe Asia Cultural Foundation, that celebrates and educates regarding the culture of the peoples of the region. Afghanistan has only been the country's name for some 250 years and does not really represent the majority of the population. It was previously a larger area than today and known as Khorosan; it has always, for geographical and other reasons, been referred to as the Heart of Asia, in Persian, Qalbe Asia. It is planned that Gen. Taheri's talk be in Persian, with translation into Dutch and / or English, though this may change, depending on the audience. In any event, there will be translation when desired.
