David Eaton
October 8, 2007
Greeting from New York:
We just returned from our 2nd performance of our Cantata for Peace, "Halelu" which took place in Sofia, Bulgaria on Oct. 8 with the Sofia Philharmonic and Chorus at the Sofia Philharmonic Hall. The concert was sponsored by the municipality of Sofia, the Israeli Embassy in Bulgaria and the Dept. of Protocol of Israel in Tel Aviv (Mordecai Hera, deputy director).
The concert was sold out (1,300) and was taped for a future broadcast on Bulgarian National Radio. There were many international diplomats in attendance including the Israeli Ambassador (Mr. Uri Resnick) and the deputy ambassadors from the U.S. and Japan. A number of Ambassadors for Peace were in attendance including Mihail Sergeev of the UPF Peace Embassy in Sofia. Mr. Sergeev brought 70 guests to the concert.
After presenting "Halelu" in the first part of the concert, David D'Or and ___ offered several songs including a Bulgarian folk song (___ received a standing ovation for that), David's big hit song (Voice From Heaven) which DD and received a standing ovation for that), David's big hit song (Voice From Heaven) which DD and ___ did as a duet, Phantom of the Opera and Hava Nagila and several classical arias.
On the concert day we prayed at the incredible Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the center of Sofia and we also visited the memorial honoring the Bulgarian King, Boris III, who protected 49,000 Bulgarian Jews from Nazi death camps. It was all very moving.
An interesting scenario was that ___ had performed in this very same venue 30 years ago when she toured Eastern Europe with Japan's NHK Children's Choir.
At the post concert reception we met the mayor of Sofia and the acclaimed British Actor, Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire/A Bridge Too Far/the Order) who now lives in Sofia.
In 2008 Israel celebrates its 60th Independence Anniversary and performances of "Halelu" are in the works for Japan (twice), Jerusalem, Poland, Stuttgart, Cyprus, Georgia, NYC and L.A.
God bless and Thanks for your support!
