Panama City, Panama -- UPF-Panama's 7th Annual Marriage Forum took place on October 27 at the El Panama Hotel. It was outstanding in the quality of the presentations and the inter-religious/interdenominational nature of the event. There were 110 persons from churches, government, academia, and NGOs in attendance.
Speakers included Ambassador for Peace Senator Marilyn Vallerino, who is in charge of the Legislative Commission on Family and Women; Dr. Juan de la Guardia, head of Opus Dei and an official in the Department of Marriage and Family; and Dr. Carlos Leiro, a noted marriage therapist.
An Evangelical pastor gave the opening and closing remarks. A lawyer from Opus Dei described government policies related to the family and the challenges of creating good families. Minerva Caballero gave a presentation about Relationship Intelligence as model abstinence education program.
Dr. Regis Hanna gave a briefing about the current state of marriage in Panama. Dr. Hanna and his wife Nancy gave an optional afternoon session based on the family relationships course "Family Wellness."
Many participants described this as a unique and important event and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to attend it.
