TO: UTS Alumni (Church leaders please facilitate)

HSA National Headquarters has received the following announcement from Ted Agres at The Washington Times Foundation, addressed to all graduates of the Unification Theological Seminary. We are assisting Mr. Agres in contacting conference invitees and assembling the list of attendees. We deem this workshop to be of high value with respect to the importance of media in understanding the challenges toward and opportunities for Godıs providential work in the secular world. Media commands enormous influence and church leaders should be thoroughly aware of it. We are grateful for the Foundationıs willingness to convene this important workshop.

The Sixth Media Workshop on Journalism and the Newspaper Industry will be held in Washington, DC, from August 15-22, 1999. (Arrivals Sunday afternoon, August 15; departures Sunday morning, August 22.) The program, sponsored by The Washington Times Foundation, will provide a comprehensive overview of all aspects of media, including print (newspapers, magazines) and electronic (television, cable, Internet).

The Workshop will include approximately 40 presentations by media professionals as well as on-site tours of The Washington Times, Atlantic Video and other television/cable facilities.

Topics will focus on the editorial, business and corporate operations of media. These include news-gathering and reporting; advertising; production; circulation; finance and legal issues. Other lectures will explore media operations in other countries and will include testimonies from those who have helped start up newspapers overseas.

For UTS alumni, The Washington Times Foundation will pay for the cost of meals during the conference. All alumni will be responsible for the cost of the hotel room (estimated at $200 for the week, double occupancy) and their own transportation to and from Washington, DC. Alumni many choose to say with friends in the area and commute to and from the conference, thus avoiding the cost of the hotel room. Participants, however, are expected to attend the entire workshop, since the presentations build upon each other.

Space is limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come basis.

To register, please fax the form below to HSA-UWC National Headquarters, UTS Alumni Division, at (212) 768-0791, or e-mail the information to Jorg Heller at jheller@hsanahq.org.

Deadline for registration is July 16, 1999.
