The Words of the Hunter Family

Forced Fundraising

Well, I remember you being sympathetic to my struggle fundraising personally, Dan, but you cited a HQ edict that any member that did not fundraise could not stay in the center. So I guess I saw you as just following orders from NAS, not making a personal judgment. I think after that, I went out with product a few times and just didn't approach anybody, which result brought some dirty looks from you, but no sanction. Eventually, Betsy got kicked out of Jamaica and came back to NY and then Washington when NAS wouldn't meet with her (she had been told to go to another country and not come back to the US). I eventually called Mrs. Won Pak Choi who invited us to Belvedere to discuss our situation. While there, she took us over to East Garden to meet with True Parents. Father talked with us about a number of things, including the fact I had been told that I couldn't stay in the center unless I fundraised. I described the experience I had knocking on a door with some fundraising product and when the door was answered not being able to speak, just standing there with tears running down my face. He was also sympathetic and said that experience could help me feel the heart of God. He said it was good to know how to fundraise but that I did not have to do so in order to stay in the center. This became a moot point within a month when Betsy and I became one of the first couples to move in together, although we didn't start our married life for another year and a half.

As I look back on this now, the only unresolved feelings I have are with NAS. He eventually met with Betsy and me, but I didn't see him as having sincerity or depth.
