RE: Monetary offerings

Last week I sent a letter about our upcoming events, True God's Day and America Honors Reverend Sun Myung Moon on his 80th Birthday. I explained that we want to pay for these events by ourselves, and we can do so if we all do our part as American members.

To carry this out, we offer admission tickets to True God's Day for $120 a person, with those under 21 free. You can support the birthday celebration in one of three ways: purchasing seats, purchasing an entire table, or making a free offering. One seat is $200 and tables of ten begin at $2,000. I sent detailed information about both of these projects and offerings in the letter.

In the midst of this American effort, Reverend Sun Jo Hwang, FFWPUI President in Seoul, called for worldwide year-end, special devotions. Perhaps you have seen a copy of his memo, but in any case I reprint it here. It was dated December 1.

Only one month now remains in this year of 1999, the year of providential fruition. This is the time when the vertical God's providence of restoration is to be completed horizontally through the True Parents in one generation. True Parents' course, which has been sprinkled with their blood, sweat and tears, is now at its absolute conclusion, at a great turning point opening a new age. True Parents have given directions outlined below. Each leader is asked to implement them in their entirety.

True Parents have directed that all blessed families should offer special devotions to welcome the new age and new millennium, according to the tradition that is bearing the victorious fruit of the providence through the suffering of True Parents and the True Family.

a. Period: December 1 to 31

b. Content: For example, special prayer conditions, fasting, night prayer vigils, to be decided according to each situation

c. Any monetary offerings for the course of restoration that we have been unable to complete (such as the Total Living Offering) should be offered. Those who have not made their blessing offerings should do so.

d. Completion of the tribal messiah mission for the victory of the 400 million couples blessing (finding 16 unmarried candidates for the blessing)

e. Offering and special devotions for the 80th Birthday (each nation should offer in excess of their blessing fund)

Here is our understanding of the offering to which Rev. Hwang referred in (e). "Each nation should offer in excess of their blessing fund" means that each couple should making an offering representing their blessing fee. FFWPUI assigned that amount to be $2,000 per couple in America. We are referring to this as the "Birthday Devotional offering."

Our challenge is to harmonize this global direction with the national direction that we already set in motion. Nationally we have True God's Day and the America Honors Reverend Sun Myung Moon on his 80th Birthday event, as well as the Kodan donation, ancestral blessing and church tithing. Dr. Yang, our Continental Director, met with the Regional Directors over the past three days, and here is their general guidance.

1. We should make a partial offering for each offering that we cannot cover in full.

2. We should strive to complete the Birthday Devotional offering by January 20, prior to the American celebration on January 22.

3. Whatever we offer for True God's Day is considered to be part of our $2,000 Birthday Devotional offering. This applies to both any local offering and to the admission fee of $120 per adult.

4. In the same way, whatever we offer for America Honors Reverend Sun Myung Moon on his 80th Birthday is considered to be part of our $2,000 Birthday Devotional offering. This applies to both any local offering and to whatever you may spend to buy a seat or table.

5. Those who complete the $2,000 offering will receive a special four-volume set of Father's words ­ a unique, 80th Birthday limited-edition of: Completed Testament Age and the Ideal Kingdom; Blessed Family and the Ideal Kingdom, Volumes I and II, and Way of Unification.

It is very important that we understand the relationship of True God's Day, the America Honors Reverend Sun Myung Moon on his 80th Birthday event, and the $2,000 Birthday Devotional offering. We already started our plan to raise money for True God's Day and the America Honors Reverend Sun Myung Moon on his 80th Birthday event. That plan does not change. The new point is that what you spend for those two events counts toward the $2,000 Birthday Devotional offering.

To complete the Birthday Devotional offering, you can send another check to HSA-UWC at 4 West 43rd Street, with the memo field stating Birthday Devotional offering. What you offer for True God's Day, the America Honors Reverend Sun Myung Moon on his 80th Birthday event and the separate Birthday Devotional check should add up to $2,000, or as close as possible.

We hope and trust that all of this will be acceptable to God as a part of our successful entry into the new millennium with True Parents.
