14 Day Fundraising Condition

Felix Janssen
December, 2002

On 24 June I arrived in Copenhagen by train, it was my birthday that day I turned 18. It was really nice to see all the ETF people, they all looked very exhausted, but there was a strong will, and people were happy and motivated.

It was in May that I gave an internal guidance about fundraising, and I know that in the coming two weeks I will find out what real fundraising is about. Being a Dutch person, I had really some experience fundraising, but I realized this was only external. Things like internal goal, double counting of money and offering your money was really new for me.

In the opening of the condition we had to write down our internal goals, and we got to know who our team members would be. It turned out that Chung Hee was my team leader, and the team members were Gwion, Rita, Mira, Ando and our driver and cook Hyung Chull Sun.

First I had really big problems with product; we were going to fundraise with wind chimes. I really did not like it. I felt like I couldn’t present myself with it, but this lack of self-confidence went by itself. Our team had to go on MFT – Mobile Fundraising Team. This was a really cool experience: we had to eat, sleep, have HDH and morning service in the van. After one weak I felt a bit like "not so clean" anymore, having only the possibility to brush your teeth at the gas station. On one day we had three runs and after each run we had to give our run report, which was also totally new for me, but it turned out to be really successful. As the time passed, the internal and external experiences grew in number, for everyone on the team. Also, our team was really close, it felt strange for me to share my pullover with my team leader, and sharing 1 litre of coke with the whole van with out the use of cups (we simply didn’t have any time for it). But after two days our team was totally one everyone knew his or her task and everything could be done quickly and smoothly.

Well, yes, the fundraising itself was quite hard at the beginning. People could be really positive or negative. Some of them speak English, some of them don’t. Before I tell you some of my important experiences, it might be funny to hear some other things. We had the cops behind us three times. While we were in Denmark there was huge festival and we were able to hear Red Hot Chilli Peppers playing live! We were the best team at singing and had loads of fun with just singing in the van. Things like just laying down, drinking some water or having a little piece of chocolate, could bring you close to heaven. The first experience I had was one of internal goals for the fundraising condition which was "experience what true team spirit is like" after 8 hours of fundraising, I missed my external goal by a very small amount. My team leader decided that I should go blitzing – stands for making fast and quick money. They dropped me in front of a row of houses and waited for me to make one more sale. The spiritual pressure for me was huge. I tried all of the houses, but I totally messed up what I wanted to say. People thought I was a freak. Back in the car they dropped me somewhere else, my team was really praying hard for me and supporting me, but again it didn’t work out. My team decided to help me and it started to get really depressing because just no one wanted to buy or give a donation, I saw Chung Hee running towards me "Come" he said "go get a hundred from the van and come back here" I didn’t understand but I ran to the van and get a hundred, then we started running toward a house, there I found a drunken old bad smelling guy.

He had a two hundred in his hand I gave him my hundred and he bought. We ran back to the van were I was welcomed by my team. I had to sit next to my team leader, ‘cause he wanted to show me pictures from ETF, he told me these weren’t all the ETF participants, this was his family. I simply started to cry because I didn’t know where to hide my emotions for being loved and supported so strongly. On to other experiences: It was the last day of the Condition, I was busy with my third and last run for that day. I met a young strong-willed woman about 35 years old, married. She was interested in our cause but suddenly she became very suspicious and asked me, are you from this Moon sect. I said, "Miss, our summer camps are inter-religious, she said "oh that’s good, they come around here really often, sick people." she went in the house and searched for money to buy a wind chime. She ran through her whole house looking for change! I didn’t really know how I had to feel anymore, how could such a nice woman be so negative about our movement? She came back and told me she couldn’t find one too, so she game me a donation. She gave me some fruit as well, I said thanks and good bye. But around the corner I felt my mind was so twisted. Suddenly, things became really clear for me. I was no more this nice boy selling wind chimes for a good cause…I turned into a Moonie, it felt like all my medallions and diploma’s of all my summer and Euro HARP WS with me, but covered by a thick coat. Opening the doors from that point on changed into this. I looked at people straight in their eyes, I said my line, but my real concentration was 50 centimeters above my head, it was totally clear for me. It was me and the good ancestors, against the bad ancestors of the person—the person didn’t matter anymore, it was a spiritual fight. I won or I lost. The people were really positive or really negative, good against evil. Nothing less, nothing more. After that I had the best run I have ever had in Denmark.

It truly was a great experience. And I’m really thankful for my team, my team leader, True Parents, and, above all, God, for taking such good care of me, and showing me so many things. This is my short report. Please be strong and stay focused all of you. Amen, Mansei!
