The Words of the Kim Family from 2009 |
Archbishop Kim explained to a gathering of 120 members Dec. 7, 2009 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. that he and Rev. Cotter were on a 12 city tour to explain how members should respond to True Father’s directions for action over the next three years. He announced that True Parents planned to return to the United States and stay during the next three years to help the nation come back to God’s side, adding that the next three years are crucial for our movement. The goal is to have 120 nations that truly understand God’s Providence, a functioning Abel United Nations, and a homeland for God. “How can we go over and make the Kingdom of God? How can we answer True Parents’ call?” he asked.
He emphasized the importance of having faith in True Father’s guidance. Problems occur, he said when we diverge from Father’s directions. “We believe in Father but somehow we are not practicing the way True Parents are leading us. True Father’s instruction to is, first, you have to believe in me -- not focus on your own ideas. Don’t think that you can understand completely with your human understanding the way of the messiah,” he said.
One important way to show faith in True Father is to witness to him publicly, he said, pointing out that Rev. Hyung Jin Moon has done exactly that and recently spoke frankly of his belief that his father was Lord of the Second Advent in his full-page interview with the Central Korean Daily newspaper.
True Father’s secret to overcoming all kinds of adversity is his personal life of faith, especially his reading of God’s Word at Hoon Dok Hae at his own Hoon Dok session before 5:00 am each day, he explained. “When we practice this we can overcome many difficult situations,” he said.
Archbishop Kim recommended that all families take the following actions
1. Read and discuss the seminal texts of Owner of Peace, Owner of Lineage [speech of July 7, 2009], Divine Principle, the Peace Messages, Cheon Seong Gyeong, Gateway to Heaven, World Scriptures and True Father’s autobiography, On Becoming a Global Citizen.
2. Purchase 430 copies of the autobiography and distribute to friends and family and to hold monthly meetings to share True Father’s life story.
3. Study the Korean language, in order to establish it the world language of our movement. Many of our members are watching the Korean drama series of Jumong in order to gain insight into the Korean history and culture.
Rev. Joshua Cotter told the gathering that traveling to 12 cities with Archbishop Kim had allowed him to get spiritually reborn. He also expressed confidence in the reliance of our church membership during the recession. The year 2009 has been a tough year, and some of us have lost our jobs or will lose them,” he said, adding that Time magazine had called the decade coming to a close the “decade from hell. Yet God has raised us for such a time as this… This not a time for us to retire. God’s idea of retire is like with a car: You take off the old tires and put on a new set,” he observed to laughter.
The True Children are showing the whole movement how to turn things around. “True Children are showing us the way. Hyung Jin Nim, In Jin Nim, and Kook Jin Nim and all the True Children are showing us the way. The church in Japan and Korea is resurgent because of our conviction of who we are, Kook Jin Nim told me recently,” he said, and the religious services of the Lovin’ Life Ministry are on the way to a live weekly broadcast.
“True Children are showing us how to change nations. It’s up to us to make it happen,” he said.
