First Local Peacemaker Project Meeting

April 22, 2007
It is amazing how God works!
We had our first Local Peacemaker Project meeting today in Torrance. Our guest speaker was Barbara West, an 89-year-old member of the Baha'i faith. She has lived a very long life of service. She currently volunteers once a week in one of our member's classroom, reading to second graders. She also serves in her church, and on the local board of elections. She brought a friend, Joyce Watanabe, also a Baha'i.
Joyce has met our movement before and attended an interfaith meeting organized by our local brother Kenji Yanagida in August 2002. She brought a photo of that meeting with her and allowed me to scan it in, so I'm attaching that here.
Barbara spoke about the basic principles of the Baha'i faith and a very lively discussion followed. It seems we have many intersecting points of connection. We share common values of faith and a similar worldview.
Joyce is a member of the credit union where Curtis used to work. Three of the people in the meeting have parents who grew up in Shizuoka, Japan. We even have dentists in common!
We gave both of these wonderful sisters applications to become Ambassadors for Peace and hope to include them in many of our future activities.
