ASUNCION -- Telephone contact has been lost between the Unification Church's negotiator and the captors of a Japanese man kidnapped earlier this month in Paraguay, a senior member of the church said Tuesday.

Communications ceased sometime past Sunday night after the captors of Hirokazu Ota, 62, apparently became aware that telephone conversations had been bugged by the police, according to the member.
