The Words of the Pierson Family |
resilience
Edwin Pierson
November 7, 1999
what keeps him going,
this man,
this Christ,
this public enigma
this personal savior?
where's all that money
when he's mocked, denigrated,
seen as vile?
Job's saga is almost funny
when seen in the light
of his life of trial
when he is downed
by foes, friends, and loved ones
he rises from the ground
again and again,
and it stuns,
it pricks
those same
self-named
"critics"
more perplexed,
more vexed
than before...
why
does he ask for more?
the secret
can it be so simple,
yet still,
virtually
impossible
to fathom?
unless
you too,
bloody,
bowed,
pushed
way
beyond
somehow
still
attest:
"God loves me best!"
who are you?
