The Words of the Triggol Family |
Motivation has always been a weak point of mine. My life has been full of unfinished tasks and unachieved goals because I can never stay motivated. I think this was the most important thing I could learn from the Montana Training Adventure.
Climbing a mountain is an interesting experience. It’s kind of like fundraising. You have to be absolutely focused and determined if you want to get anywhere. So the first day we went on a mini hike. I realized a week later that this hike was absolutely nothing physically challenging but at the time I felt like I was going to die. I expressed this to my team that. I told them that I can’t push myself easily because I lose motivation in seconds.
That night, Mr. Macmurdie told us about having a heart of “Jeong Seong”, to use this week and all the struggles we go through as “Jeong Seong” or condition for something greater than ourselves. So, since there were five days in the hike I decided I would dedicate each day to a new person in my family.
There were times in those five days of hiking when my legs were so weak and I felt that I couldn’t push anymore and all I could think of was my sister at the top of this impossible hill and me running to save her. There were times when my backpack felt so heavy and I wanted to stop but I thought that I was carrying my brother on my back and the last thing that I wanted to do was stop and drop him. The love I had for my family was all the motivation I needed to do what I thought was impossible.
My deepest experience with “Jeong Seong” was on the day we hiked six hours to climb a 10,600 ft mountain. My Jeong Seong for that day was my parents -- which was very appropriate. You see, my mother passed on to the Spirit World two years ago and so expressing my love to her is very difficult. I can’t just buy her a gift or kiss her on the cheek to show my love. The last hour of the hike was a dead climb to the top. Physically, this was probably the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. There were so many times all I wanted to do was stop and rest but then I would think about my mom. I would say over and over again, “this is how much I love you.” I felt like for the first time in two years, I could really show her how much I loved her.
This I feel was the most valuable thing I could learn that week. God created us to love and for love to be the most powerful force in the world. So when our motivation is absolute love, there is no way we can fail at anything.
