Robert McCauley was born on September 10, 1951 in Brooklyn. He attended Roman Catholic schools in Brooklyn, New York and Leonardtown, Maryland, and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College in downtown Brooklyn with a major in English. He joined the Unification Church in 1974 and was in the second graduating class of the Unification Theological Seminary at Barrytown, New York in the late 1970s. He was Blessed in Holy Matrimony in Korea on Aug. 25, 1992. He worked for the U.S. Department of the Interior as a tour guide and security guard at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. After a year or two, he returned to an insurance firm he had worked for previously, located in downtown Manhattan right next to the South Street Seaport area. He became ill recently and attempted both conventional treatments such as chemotherapy and alternative, more holistic forms of healing.
He deeply touched all whom he encountered in his lifetime by his gentle kindness, good-hearted humor, intelligence, wit, passion and enthusiasm for God, people and all things, including film, music, books, poetry, drama, novels and stories, and one of his most beloved interests, the game of baseball (and especially the New York Yankees) and many other sports. He is survived by his beloved sister Maureen and her sons--his devoted nephews Jason and Brian--loving relatives and countless friends, colleagues, co-workers and fellow Seminary, College and St. Joseph's Juniorate alumni.
