The 1986-87 Season Of Alice Tully Hall concerts by the New York City Symphony began on Tuesday, October 28. The program presented works by Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Part, and Hindemith. The large audience included a number of people who understand that the orchestra has a providential role, and among them were Rev. Chung Hwan Kwak and Dr. Bo Hi Pak.
It is clear that the Symphony is developing well under the personal and musical leadership of its director David Eaton. Does the orchestra aspire to world-class status? Of this concert, David said, "It's a good beginning to the season. Yes, we hope we can become a world-class orchestra. Be that as it may, we feel our mission is outreach. Some of the world's best musicians have taken notice of the New York City Symphony, and already we are having international impact."
