The Words of the Ureta Family |
When I was little, I used to be scared of the 'darkness'. I couldn't simply bear to go to bath room in the middle of the night without turning on all the lights of the house.
And I left it on because I wasn't brave enough to turn them off, so my Mom got upset in the morning knowing I was the one who did that (because it's waste of energy). The reason why I was scared of dark was that I was afraid of the 'Ghosts' in it! Even though I'd never seen one, I've heard lots of stories about it and even worse I've seen the books of 'Ghosts photos'!(It was so popular among my friends). Therefore, I've never had a doubt that there is a spirit world... I even had a friend who can see the 'spirits' behind people.
She was a very intellectual girl, who became a teacher later on. I don't think she was telling the lies... I can say that by considering her character, she was always honest and trust worthy person whom everyone loved. (However, her mom was a spiritualist whom many people visit for spiritual counseling).
And in my hometown there's the custom to worship the ancestors spirit. We have an alter for the ancestors, and certain days of the year, all the relatives were gathered to pray to ancestors for the protections of the family.
One day I happened to see the movie 'Omen'. Because the movie was so real to me, I couldn't help but check with 'revelation' (The movie was created based on the prophecy of that). That's how I come to read the Bible.
Then my curiosity lead me to read the prophecy of 'Nostradamus' translated in Japanese. I was so shocked after I read that and told my father that 'The end of the world is coming!'(I was pretty serious!) My father laughed and said, 'You can't live with that kind of thought in you.' But somehow I couldn't forget about these things and the thoughts of the 'existence of the life after death'.
My curiosity about 'spirit world' grew as I grew up. One of my friend had the series of books written by Japanese spiritualist called "The great spirit world" it had volumes 1~10. She let me borrow all of them, so I started to read with a lightning speed! It was all about the author(a spiritualist)'s real experience with the spirit world. He had some followers who practiced spiritual healing taught by him. What was his point of view about 'spirit world'? According to what he said, that 'spirit' is everywhere!(It shocked me because I wanted to believe, spirits are only in the graves and haunted houses!) This scared me even more!(Remember I was scared of darkness???) He explained that spirits come to people by the 'law of attractions(The book was published in 80's in Japan long before the popular book 'secret' was published in US).
For instance, if you have evil thoughts like 'angry', 'jealous', or resentments, like minded spirits will be attracted to you. So doesn't matter 'where' or 'when', you'll attract the spirits according to the state of your mind.
When I was 19, I joined Unification Church in Japan and studied 'Divine Principle' (I will share how I come to join the church sometime later) about 'spirit world' it reminded me of the books that I read before. What I mean is that 'laws of attractions of the spirit' was right. According to the Divine Principle,
Just as any two people must first form a common base with each other before they can work toward a common goal, earthly people and spirits can work to achieve a common providential goal only when they first form a common base.(Exposition of the Divine Principle Resurrection 2.3.3)
This 'common base' according to my understanding is the 'like attracts likes'(law of attractions). It made perfect sense to me!
