Tong-il Moo Do Philippine-Japan is one of the active organizations involved in the activities of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo. On June 17 -- 20, 2009, the President of the Republic of the Philippines visited Japan to further the ties of the two countries particularly in Seafarers, economic co-operations, meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Taro Aso, etc. During her visit, she scheduled June 19, 2009 to meet with Filipino Community living in Japan at the same time in celebration of 111th Philippine Independence Day wherein 400 to 500 selected Filipino representatives from different organizations all throughout Japan attended. The event was celebrated at the Mariner’s Court Hotel in Tokyo.

During the said event, TIMD was tapped by the Embassy to be involved in the security committee aside from the PSG from Philippines who accompanied the President and Japanese police men who are present to ensure the safety of the President and her company. There were 21 TIMD members (UC and non-UC members ) headed by Mr. Robert Alcamfor were assigned as security. It was really a big challenged for all of us in a sense that this responsibility is not an ordinary as what we had in the last years Independence Day celebrations.

All TIMD members dressed up in different attire than the general audience. We wear American suit, dressed up like professionals and acted like professionals. The members were divided into five groups and every group has their own area of responsibility to take care of. It was very exciting but challenging responsibility for all of us especially when the President entered the venue, where people are waiting excitedly expressing joy in their faces. It was not hard for us to control the crowd when President entered the hall. However, when she starts leaving, the Hall way was jump packed with people waiting for her exit and it was difficult for her to pass. At that moment all of us did our very best to make a way for the President, pushing people to move aside and blocking those who are approaching. Finally, it was a job well done. The Embassy Officials are very thankfull to all and appreciated our efforts.

One surprising moment for the TIMD members is when we were waiting for the President’s entrance. The Labor Attaché’ Atty. Danilo P. Cruz, who is the co-chairman of this event called Mr. Robert Alcamfor, the President of TIMDP-J and other two Presidents of Filipino Community Organizations to be the representatives of all Filipino organizations in Japan to welcome President Arroyo and offer a bouquet of flowers. It was really surprising and exciting moment. When the President came, three of us welcomed her with a smile, we shook hands and we were introduced by the Labor Attache to her one by one including the organization we are affiliated with. She is very thankful because of our involvement in the event of the Philippine Embassy and our contributions in the Filipino community. The event was ended and all of us were tired, thirsty and hungry however, we were filled with joy in a sense that it was another big accomplishment in the history and the providence of TIMD in Japan.

All returned home full of pride and dignity for the job well done. I would like to express my deepest thanks to the members of TIMD who joined in our security forces during the said event. Congratulations to all!
