Ambassador for Peace Dr. Habib Chirzin was invited by the Indonesian Ministry of National Education to be a keynote speaker in the National Character Education and Student Leadership Training for Sumatra Region Universities in Medan, North Sumatra, December 4 - 7, 2006.

The ministry introduced an Intelligence, Emotional, Spiritual and Value based leadership. The title of the keynote speech was "Diversification of Challenges in an Ever Changing World, Human Security, Peace and Our Common Responsibilities."

Two days before that, the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) KL jointly organized an International Seminar with Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) and the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia on December 2, 2006, at the UMY Campus, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The theme of the seminar was "Muslim Countries and Development: Achievements, Constraints, and Alternative Solutions (Multi-Disciplinary Approach)." It was attended by the Rector of IIUM and UMY, Deans and Faculty members and post-graduate students of IIUM and UMY.

Once again, Dr. Chirzin was honored to be a keynote speaker after the opening remarks from the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Bambang Sudibyo; the representative of Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, the Governor of Yogyakarta; Rector of UMY Dr. Khoiruddin Bashori; and Rector of IIUM Prof. Dato Dr. Syed Arabi Idid.

The title of the keynote speech was "Development Cooperation, Human Security and Peace: A Critical Reflection." Aside from a plenary session, there were more than 40 interesting papers presented in 4 parallel sessions covering 1. Science, technology and education/human resource development issues; 2. Economic development issues; 3. Politics and legal enforcement issues; 4. Social, religious and cultural issues.

Dr. M. Habib Chirzin, is an Ambassador for Peace and also serves as Commissioner, Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights, and President, Islamic Millennium Forum for Peace and Dialogue.
