Daniel Clipper's Seung Hwa Ceremony

November 3, 2006
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We had a beautiful Seung Hwa ceremony today for Daniel Clipper. It was held at Washburn-McReavy Funeral home located at Hillside Cemetery in North East Minneapolis. This was a very nice location and the staff was very professional and gracious. Rosemary Yokoi did a very nice job as the officiator (MC) emphasizing the celebratory nature of the Seung Hwa ceremony. Scott Pankow, Keiko Takahashi, and the choir provided beautiful music chosen by Rieko Clipper. Rieko had some very good pictures from Daniel's life including his early days in the movement with other members.
Rieko gave a testimony to her husband which revealed his many sides, his kindness, his love for her, and her love for him: "At age 18 I had a very strong feeling that I would marry an American. As soon as I saw Father pick Daniel for me I thought, 'that's my man.' He was so tall with beautiful green eyes and so handsome, I fell in love with him that day and every day since."
Later on at the graveside ceremony Rev. Gavin gave a stirring prayer and then Daniel's niece, Daisy, who came all the way from North Carolina shared her heart about her uncle. She said her grandfather left her grandmother, mother and two uncles when they were still little children. In addition to that, the grandmother was pretty mean to the children. Daniel and and his sister, Daisy's mother, were very close and suffered through the lack of loving parents together. When Daisy was little her mother got very sick and her uncle Dan came to care for Daisy and siblings for extended periods of time. Like her mother, Daisy's father left her family when she was very young. She said her uncle Dan was the only father she ever had and she still seeks his approval. "Uncle Dan and Aunt Rieko are my only family." Daisy is now a nurse specializing in open heart surgery and longed to see her uncle thinking how proud he would be of her. Dan's sister wasn't able to attend, not able to bear the sight of her beloved brother's lifeless body.
Rosemary Yokoi stressed to everyone that Daniel is not here ... not here ... not here [in the grave] but with God and on a new mission. We finished with three Og Manseis and returned to the center for a delicious lunch together.
This was fine and revealing tribute to our dear brother Daniel Kenneth Clipper.
