The Words of the Drenicheva Family |
Here is an Update by regarding the developments in Kazakhstan:
Not many news, just these 2 points:
According to our lawyer, The appeal must be filed by January 24th
Within a week, the lower court will send the appeal to the appeal court (after preparing a transcript of all the court sessions)
The lawyer expects the appeal court to respond around the middle of February.
Lisa will remain in prison during that time. They rejected for her to go out with bail.
If the appeal is denied, I believe that we could go to the supreme court - but it is not sure they will agree to take the case.
We cannot go to the European Court (Kazakhstan has no such agreement).
One point that was mentioned by a Human Rights expert I met today and that needs to be researched, is that Kazakhstan signed last month some additional protocol of the Human Rights Protocol on Political and Civil Rights of the United Nations
Not sure what that is, but he indicated that this could be another point of pressure against Kazakhstan.
I am returning to Moscow tomorrow morning and from there will coordinate our action, together with Dr Petrovsky and Kostya Krylov.
