The Words of the Honey Family |
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Steve Honey's mother, Arline, passed to the spirit world on July 10. Steve sent me a brief bio of her life (see below).
We pray that she had a good passing and is doing well in her new life.
From Steve:
She passed away yesterday, July 10th, 2013 due to kidney failure and complications from a stroke. She was really a good and generous person, always thinking of others before herself and was loved by almost everyone that met her.
Born in Philadelphia January 15, 1929 (the same day as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) * The only child of Max and Alma Jacobs
Moved to Wilmington as a little girl.
Attended an interracial elementary school. Had no concept of segregation.
After public school she went to secretarial school (as many young women of her generation) and worked most of her life as a secretary for various (mostly non-profit) companies.
Married Edward Honey. (He passed in 1997.) Three kids: Roberta (Bobbie), Steve and Carolyn.
5 Grandchildren
Our home was always open for young people to visit and even stay. It developed the name "Honey Home" and old friends from that time still refer to it 40 years later.
She was always active in civil rights and other social reform efforts. In 1963 she went to Martin Luther King's "March on Washington", one of a small percentage of white people to participate. Knowing there could be violence she wrote a will before she left and told my older sister and I how important the cause was.
I joined the church in 1973 and she supported the church when most parents were negative. When she heard Divine Principle and that the Messiah had come between 1917 and 1930 she said, "Oh my God, they already killed him!" thinking it was Martin Luther King. She joined in 1974 and stayed active for a number of years, living in the New Yorker Hotel and later with my family in Pleasantville, NY.
She returned to live in Wilmington until she passed.
