In Memoriam Sanae Tully
I will never forget my sister Sanae-san. She passed away on Nov. 30, 1999, at the age of 51. She was in her husband Joe A. Tully’s hometown, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, where she had lived the past 11 years. Joe and Sanae are an 1800 Blessed Couple, and have five children.
Sanae was born on Jan. 9, 1948, in Kochi Prefecture, Shikoku Island, Japan. She was a bright, energetic and athletic girl. She joined the Unification Church in 1970, in the town of Nagoya.
Sanae came to the U.S. in July 1973, as a member of the ‘Third Group.’ She worked as a ‘Kitchen Sister’ at J-House, witnessed with the IOWC and participated in the CARP movement. She was always a very thoughtful, kind and generous person. She really took care of me and supported my family so much.
She is a very strong woman, determined to accomplish her mission and fulfill God’s will. She deeply loves True Parents and her family!
When Sanae gave birth to her fourth baby, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Later, she was cured of this and cancer-free for 14 years.
On Jan. 22, 1997, she went to Chungpyung Lake for 40 days. In November of that same year, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She had the ovary removed, started a special diet and took natural medicines...but had no chemotherapy or radiation treatments. In January 1999, she felt a sharp pain in her leg. After a bone scan, it was found that Sanae had bone cancer...which had already spread to her chest, shoulder, back, hips and legs!
She chose to have ‘home care’; a hospice nurse visited Sanae very often, comforted her and loved her so deeply. Through all of this, Sanae maintained a strong faith in God and True Parents. She studied the Divine Principle and did Hoon Dok Hwae daily. She always kept a positive mind and fought hard to overcome her illness!
Sanae knew that God was calling her home to be with Him. So she prepared to begin her ‘second life’ in the spirit world. She studied much about the spirit world and life after death. I remember clearly her saying again and again, "I am so grateful I followed the Messiah while I had a physical body and while the True Parents were on this earth. How lucky I am!"
After Sanae’s passing, her husband, Mr. Joe A. Tully, officiated at a beautiful Seung Hwa ceremony and Won Jon ceremony for her.
