George Rapp -- Harmony

George Rapp and his followers broke away from the Lutheran Church because they felt they weren't devout enough. In Europe Rapp was jailed for awhile. They went to America and built several socialist communities that thrived for awhile and then died. One of the most famous of their communities was harmony in Indiana. After ten years they sold it to Robert Owen who renamed it, New Harmony.

This is a popular tourist attraction. Here are some pictures of this community that has been restored. There are pictures of a new modernistic building that is the welcome center where visitors can see a film about the Rappists who were celabate because they felt they needed to be pure and sacrificial for Jesus who they felt was returning at any moment.
