It is difficult to create a comprehensive, informative memo including input from all areas. This has resulted in nothing going out to you. I think it better to send something informal and incomplete, than to send nothing. Here it is!
1. The New York Extension Site. Our impact on the first floor of 43rd St. is starting to be seen. The extension will change the character of the building, for the better! A UTS flag, photos in the lobby, a reception area in the lobby, a study area in those empty rooms in the back, etc. Drop in on August 26, 9 am-2 pm for our open house. You can sign up for an evening course, or bring someone who would like to sign up.
2. Barrytown. We have revamped the curriculum and increased the practical courses. I'm most excited by preparing a course on church growth. We are developing other courses in urban ministry, church and community development, preparation for marriage, biblical family values, and more.
3. We have 25-30 new students in the pipeline for this September in Barrytown. Among them are 5 from other churches. We have 7 students in the pipeline for Manhattan; 2 from other churches. We are banking heavily on the open house. School starts Sept 6 in Barrytown, and Sept 18 in Manhattan. It is not easy to bring students. Pray for us.
4. We have 25 days left in our 70 day chain fast. If anyone would like to participate, send me your name and I will send you a date on which to fast. Indicate any days that would be impossible for you to fast.
5. In the last e-corn I asked for ideas for the Alumni Assoc. Jack Whedbee suggested recruiting new students and continuing in research and writing. Robert Spitz also sent a good suggestion, but doggone-it, I lost it. Robert, could you send it again?
6. I attended a workshop at the Willow Creek church this week, and developed a better grasp of small group ministry, that we will endeavor to apply with the student teams here at UTS. Also I picked up materials on discovering and developing one's spiritual gifts, that I will share with the students.
7. Finances, always a challenge. Recruiting is a challenge, too, as you see above. Deeper than that is how UTS can truly serve the movement. We are developing in the right direction, while keeping stability. It is difficult to turn a big ship when it is also part of armadas called the New York State Education Dept and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. We persevere by faith, hope and love.
8. Alumni news: I have accumulated over 325 e-mail addresses. I'd like to provide news. If you are doing something you consider special, or have just accomplished a major goal or changed position, let me know. For example, I never knew that Mary Jo (Downey) Blagg (UTS '85) is now an English professor. Send news my way and I'll get it out.
I wish everyone God's presence in True Parents' love. ITN, Tyler Hendricks
