UTS is the seed, right? The root meaning of the term, "seminary," is "seed," "semen." The seminary is the seed from which the church grows, and the church is the foundation for the blessing of the culture. So the seminary's role isŠ seminal! The book "Servant Leadership" by Robert Greenleaf identifies two institutions most central to the health of a free society. One is seminaries and the second is foundations.

Seminaries form the leadership of the churches. They shape the spiritual and ethical worldview of the leaders of government, media, education, business and so forth. Foundations shape the direction of the universities, by their grant-giving power, and this in turn shapes the direction of the society.

UTS stands in a reciprocal relationship with both the churches and foundations created by True Parents. By God's grace, the churches and foundations are developing a partnership with UTS. The Young Jin Moon Charitable Foundation, as readers know, has committed $155,000 over two years for education in management of future Unification Church leaders. Thus it is shaping our church's future by way of contributing toward management excellence.

I am happy to announce that the IIFWP, under the guidance of Rev. Chung Hwan Kwak, has committed $10,000 toward the education in ecumenical leadership of future inter-religious leaders. Thus it too is shaping the future of our movement and world.

Of course, for three years our church in Japan, under the leadership of Rev. Tae Haeng Yu, has funded the seminary education of young leaders for the future of the church, not just in Japan but worldwide. These leaders are following the model of our Founder's commitment to UTS, and hear our Founder's words, that "UTS is the central educational institution of the world" (June 13, 2003).

UTS applauds the vision and investment in the future of Kook Jin Nim, Rev. Kwak and Rev. Yu, and is actively encouraging more leaders of their heart to make similar investments in the future of True Parents work generation after generation. I have encouraged the Board of Trustees to establish a similar scholarship fund, so that worthy young American leaders may have access to seminary education.

I solicit from givers not just "energy" (funding to be strategically disbursed) but "ideas" concerning just what kind of leadership we need to educate for (such as management). I encourage the alumni to consider such giving as well.

This giving has a triple-value. It enables individuals to study at UTS, it shapes the future of our church and larger movement, and it provides UTS the financial means to sustain and enhance its service.

Frank Lagrotteria (UTS '90) lauds the good work the UTS students put in with conference services at the inaugural event of the Interreligious International Peace UN Inauguration. He writes, "we actually had more than 15 new staff members with most of them coming from either the UTS community or students." On our behalf, we thank Mr. LaGrotteria for his excellent servant leadership of our students. I met several students who said it was a fantastic experience, a most valuable part of their UTS experience. IIFWP, keep it up!

A complete report will come soon, but just to mention we had a group of over 100 educators from around the country and as far away as Jardim, here at UTS over the weekend. Dr. Yang gave a deep Hoon Dok Hae on Saturday morning and a meaningful address at the opening plenary. The rest of the conference consisted of breakouts, discussions, poster sessions, best practices panels--a real smorgasbord of delicious and nutritious educational food. It is a stepping stone toward a "center for education" here at UTS.

The BFA is being re-instituted, with Dr. Yang and Rev. Jenkins' guidance, and the hard work of so many members that I won't even name one. Suffice to say that Chad Hoover has now established a BFA office here at UTS. This may lead (I personally hope) to an annual Family Conference here at the seminary, and significant development of our family life ministries, of which we are desperately in need. You should be receiving a mailing about this, with an in-depth questionnaire, soon (America).

I am embarking on a global tour this week. I will be in Boston four days for a conference in Strategic Enrollment Management. Then I will be traveling to Frankfurt, Moscow, Seoul / Asan / Chunan, Tokyo, Manila and San Francisco. I will be meeting our church leadership to discuss how UTS can serve their needs for future leadership. I will be discussing how UTS can partner with the church for success, so that students who want to come CAN come, CAN study meaningful courses for their careers, and CAN graduate quickly and be placed in the RIGHT PLACE at the RIGHT TIME. I'll be back in Barrytown December 1. It's so exciting, honestly. Any alumni in those areas that I mentioned, please contact your church or CARP HQ for more details about my schedule. Our beloved physician, Dr. Jae Kil Park, as many of you know, is fighting a serious cancer (pancreas, liver and more). Doctors here in America did all they could, and have given up. He has since gone to Chung Pyung Lake, and, well, God has not given up. He is IMPROVING his condition there, with ansu and various treatments, including prayer walks and the water of life. Deamo Nim's personal touch has alleviated pain that he expected would require morphone. She says that if he reaches springtime, he will defeat the cancer. He is back here briefly, and will return to Chung Pyung Lake soon. We had a going-away celebration (he is retiring from UTS and the Board of Trustees) two weeks ago. His life and contributions are far too great to enumerate here, but we all know and love him and pray for his victory, and the victory of the Chong Shim Hospital.

Rev. In Sung Moon

Rev. In Sung Moon (UTS '01) is doing a great job as World CARP Consultant in Oceania. He is working with the top church leadership to establish Peace Councils in many nations. He spoke at a conference in Palau that attracted the top government leaders. He reports:

In Session Four, Rev. In Sung Moon, World-CARP Consultant for Oceania presented ³Leadership Development: Core Values.² The power of this presentation lay in Rev. Moon¹s ability to take universal spiritual principles and apply them in a down to earth way to define what it means to be a good leader. Participants, all of whom hold leadership positions, were visibly attracted to this presentation. The Core Values present the key criteria by which one can assess one¹s current standard of leadership and provides precious insights into how one can improve.

He also praises the work of Rev. Paul Saver (UTS '88), another major leader in Oceania. Congratulations to In Sung and Paul!

Gillian Corcoran's Labyrinth ministry keeps growing. She brought a conference of dowsers here on October 26. Dowsers are people who can detect, through spirit world guidance, the presence of water (as well as other things) under ground. It was a great event, with neighbors as well as people from out of state. One interesting side-bar: some of them found significant springs under our land at UTS, as little as 35 feet under the surface. One of them was just adjacent to the labyrinth! Several of the dowsers visited the chapel and, no, they didn't find water under the chapel, but they did ask if they could attend worship service here.

And student Yukimi Lemont has spearheaded the revival of theologian's conferences, the first of which took place two weeks ago. I could not participate, but I heard it was very stimulating, on the topic of the Cross. There will be a follow-up conference next spring.
