Garden
Neighbors and an enlarging circle of friends are starting to visit our seminary, centering on Gillian Corcoran's labyrinth ministry. One has proposed that we create a community garden. It is a legacy of Dr. Park. Today at 2 pm, students, faculty and staff gathered to initiate four days of prayer and testimony in honor of Dr. Jaekil Park, in the lovely reception room of the health center. Formal gatherings will take place each day at 6:30 am, 1 pm and 10 pm. (I regret to say that logistical difficulties prevent my sending information on how to send flowers for Dr. Park's ascension ceremony. Please be aware that flowers will be there from Dr. Yang, the American church, UTS, and the UTS alumni in Korea.)
Intern
UTS student Yukimi Lemont's winter break internship bore the fruit of Jesus' love in the Capital Area Council of Churches (CACC), Albany. Yukimi's relationship with the CACC came through Dr. Kathy Winings, UTS professor and Extension Center Dean, and one local sister, Johanna Forringer. Long story short, today the Unification Church of Albany was accepted as a member of the CACC, with Rev. Sebastian Heumer (current UTS student), Farley (UTS '78) and Betsy Jones as representatives. The critical point was convincing them that we are not a cult, through provision of court case information related to deprogramming.
Representation
UTS and the Northern Dutchess Conference Center are starting to become active with our local Chamber of Commerce. Through this morning's meeting, we invited a local mayor and county legislator, who is contemplating running for NY State Senate, to UTS next month to meet our church community.
Breakfast
I am sending a report of a local March 9 interfaith prayer breakfast to the FFWPU website. In attendance were the Executive Director of the County Interfaith Council (a Presbyterian minister), an imam, a Hindu leader, and the President of a major Baptist New York State Convention, among others. Kudos to the Just Peace Project, directed by UTS student Chris Antal, who gave a stimulating talk.
Sound
___ is recording an album in the UTS chapel. The engineer says that our chapel has world-class acoustics and that UTS could become a center of music and spirit. Mrs. Lee is organizing a spring concert here April 4 (3 pm), and we will have an old-fashioned UTS Open House on May 29 with some superb music getting lined up.
These little steps are valuable for UTS' future. There are many more that have come, and more surely yet to come.
