Dear UTS Alumni/ae and Friends

I am sure you have heard of the upcoming Young Oon Kim Memorial event in Washington DC. I look forward to your participation. The evening presents a unique opportunity for UTS in Washington DC. There are many bridges to be built. A bridge with the UTS alumni, a bridge to the DC area FFWPU, a bridge to the DC area ACLC, and a bridge to the IIFWP Ambassadors for Peace. UTS is proud that the leadership of each of these organizations includes alumni of UTS.

UTS is busy in the formation and development of the next generation of leadership, and needs the collaborative financial support from these organizations and their membership to make that happen.

The Young Oon Kim Scholarship Fund can be a catalyst to kick start the graduate education and leadership training of selected 2nd Generation from the DC area, who will eventually fill the ranks of leadership in these organizations and many more worthwhile missions. The broader thinking at UTS is that 2nd Generation is not limited to Unification families, but also includes ACLC. The protégées of the ACLC ministers are also to be recipients of the Young Oon Kim scholarships.

This kick-off event in DC, honors the achievements and the cornerstone foundation of Dr. Y.O. Kim. This recognizes the broad mind and heart that "Miss Kim" had for all Americans in her missionary and teaching work, and memorializes her investment in this country. Dr. Y.O. Kim stressed process, and the Young Oon Kim Scholarship Fund will be a "process". It will start in DC and substantively support that community, but then it will expand to all the major cities of the USA through the UTS alumni assocation network linking to FFWPU, to ACLC and to the Ambassadors for Peace.

UTS seeks to recruit 2nd Generation from throughout the USA so that they can return after graduation to serve a minimum of 2 years in their community. This is an important element of the initiative, and an especially good reason for the local communities to support the education of these students. It is a heavenly version of the ROTC scholarship program.

UTS has been called the "East Point" of the Hudson River.... indeed one vision is that students and graduates from UTS are "the corps" of the Peace Army that Rev. Moon is currently speaking about on his world tour.... they are the UTS "peace cadets", "peace captains" and "peace commandos"... disciplined and toughened, but in the arts of peace. Peace education is at the core of the UTS curriculum.

Many founding members of the American UC are located in Washington DC. They grew up under the leadership of Dr. Young Oon Kim between 1959 and 1973. Also, many alumni who were taught by Dr Y.O. Kim at UTS after 1975 are now located in the DC area. I hope you can take the time to personally invite colleagues and friends in the DC area to come and support this special evening. Please put it on your schedule to come and support UTS President Dr. Tyler Hendricks, UTS Board Chairman, W.Farley Jones and UTS Professor, Dr. Lonnie McLeod.

For those alumni/ae and friends who live in other parts of the country and world, please think of how you can help make this evening and scholarship fund a success.

An alumnus from Western USA has today offered a donation of $80 to cover the price of 2 tickets to the event, so that 2 people in the DC area can attend.

UTS takes donations of cash, checks and credit cards. Donations can also be made securely online by visiting www.uts.edu. Click: Giving to UTS and proceed to choose the area of giving. Send me an e-mail to alumni@uts.edu to confirm which area of giving you want your gift placed.

Some suggestions: -A ticket costs $40. Help an alumnus/a in the Capital District come to a celebration of our very own Dr Y.O Kim and to share the evening with other alumni.

-Help kick off the Young Oon Kim Scholarship Fund with a small gift, or according to your means, a more sizeable gift. It will support the DC area 2nd Generation. As mentioned the Fund will grow to include all the major areas.

Originally the Founder had asked each alumnus/a to recruit and sponsor a student, year after year. With the YOK Scholarship Fund as a catalyst, we can join together and as a team help his vision of sustainability come true.

Whatever you can manage to give or do, thank you. Out of sight has often meant out of mind. UTS seeks to make amends, to step up to the plate, and be a powerful force on the front line of education, a force that cannot be ignored. UTS will be a bridge; UTS will fire-up a new generation with the vision of peace and equip them with the practical tools to bring peace to the world. UTS strives to be mindful of its alumni, its friends; and to renew old acquaintances and to forge new ones.

The motto for UTS is "Building Relationships. Learning what Matters".

There are extra invitations printed. When you need UTS to send one to your invitees then please let Gillian Corcoran know by calling at 845-752-3000 Ext 233 or sending an email to walk4peace@earthlink.net

Of course a personal telephone call to your friends and contacts is more persuasive!

Thank you
