In this memo I have done my best to put together an overall understanding for the Blessing 2000 campaign. I am trying to combine the street witnessing with TP's direction to work in the churches. Also I am combining this with the internet outreach.
Concerning internet, we are discussing how the Seattle-based "matchingservice.org" internet site can become an effective site for everyone to access and utilize nationwide.
All of this is for discussion; it is not complete. I send it to you in order to get your input. I also would like to receive any LECTURE NOTES OR OUTLINES that you are using. Also I would like to know WHO IS DOING THE TEACHING, and what is YOUR EDUCATION PLAN if you have one.
Also, let me know what you think of this proposal.
Organization: FFWPU America, working together with other religious institutions (churches).
Goals for this campaign (PR friendly):
1. Create healthy marriages through a matching process, as the basis for world peace
2. Connect marriages to religious institutions (church, mosque, synagogue, temple), as the basis for healthy marriages
Assumption:
The matching will be successful only in the context of a religious commitment within a supportive community, whether the UFC (Unification Family Church) or another. Therefore, the matching education process includes the creation or strengthening of the applicant's religious commitment.
General Method of Outreach and Education:
1. FFWPU volunteers work with a host community‹a church or other religious institution. (At present, our only host community is the Unification Family Church, but we foresee our volunteers working with other religious institutions, especially other churches).
2. FFWPU volunteers introduce matching service to interested singles. They carry this out in the context of the UFC, as is presently the case, or of any host church community. In the latter case, they would help create marriage and family programs in that church and invite guests to attend.
3. FFWPU advisors (including experienced members of other churches) provide general education on personal growth and marriage, and guide singles through the application process. This education inculcates the value of a religious/spiritual way of life for the sake of a good marriage.
4. FFWPU advisors encourage applicants to reconfirm their commitment to their own church, mosque or synagogue. If the person has no such commitment, the FFWPU advisor invites the applicant to consider involvement with the FFWPU host community (whether UFC or other).
5. Based upon the person's interest they can receive religious instruction by host community. The applicants should be as deeply committed to the church as possible, in order to insure a successful commitment to the matching.
The next step:
Introduce this opportunity to ministers. (See attached proposal for the National ministers office in Chicago to develop and send to ministers.)
Curriculum:
First stage (in our church or others): General true family values
I don't have anything in hand, but I have a concept based upon what New York church is doing together with PLA leaders Balcomb and Kittel. First of all, these are called "courses" and each should conclude with a test and a certificate of graduation.
I. Introductory presentation, derived from TP's recent public speeches ("Blessed Marriage and Eternal Life" in particular). This presentation, while very general, would attract those who are serious about marriage and spirit world (the three stages of life) to take the next step. It would eliminate those who just came off the street for a selfish reason.
II. One-day or two-day course, combining the CLUE curriculum with DP. This would conclude with an invitation for those who are serious to make the Pure Love Pledge.
III. Joining a small group, or support group (or moving into the center). The support group would be led by a blessed couple, ideally. It would impart material on marriage preparation from the DP and other perspectives, including material from Marriage Savers, Harvel Hendricks, etc.
IV. Also we would offer "FFWPU meetings" an exciting evening program that would serve the purpose of a Sunday service, but without the "churchy" trappings. New York church will inaugurate the first such service this Sunday at 5 p.m. at 43rd Street.
V. A three-day or four-day course. It would include teachings from "In Search of the Origin of the Universe" on absolute sex, lineage, strategies to avoid falling, the fall of man, etc. Mr. Balcomb and Mr. Kittel are working to develop this one.
Second stage: The next stage of education would center on the religious curriculum specific to the host community. In the case of the UFC, it is the job of our national witnessing/education department to create that. This will require work with each region to set up lecturers, workshop sites and support staff.
The Matching Form:
I will soon have a proposal, based upon discussions with various people including Kaye Allen from the legal office and Lynn Mathers from the BFD. I propose that we have three kinds of forms.
1. For church members, we will use the standard form that we have been using for the past four years.
2. For non-members or brand-new members, we will have two kinds of forms.
A. For those with whom we have personal contact and who are attending programs and workshops: we will have a fairly detailed form. They may be matched on the world level (by Continental Directors), on the national level (by Regional Directors), or on the Regional or local level (by State Leaders and/or local ministers). Lynn is working on that form; it is based very closely on the standard application form. It is for someone who has a sincere commitment to the church. They would receive one match and would be expected to accept that match.
B. For those whom we are connected only through the internet (in particular, the matchingservice.org site), and who live too far away from a center to actually meet someone and attend programs, we have to offer education online, and then introduce the person online to a list of potential partners. It would be up to those people to take it from there. This is, as far as I know, the way that most internet matching services operate. This form will be based upon the form that the Seattle-based matchingservice.org site has developed.
In either case, after the two people have accepted the match, we would ask them to fill out one more simple form to indicate that they are agree with the match and take responsibility for it.
Note that among people we are working with face-to-face (as opposed to through the internet) I recommend that we match ONLY those who have a serious commitment to a church, whether our church or another church.
I look forward to hearing from you.
