Dear Fr. Alex,

On behalf of the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace, we are pleased to invite you to Assembly 2003, to be convened as part of the World Culture and Sports Festival 2003, on July 10-14, 2003, in Asan, Korea, just south of Seoul. The theme of IIFWP's Assembly 2003 is "Global Governance at a Turning Point: Innovative Approaches to Peace in a Changing World." Assembly 2003 sessions will be held at the recently constructed international conference center on the campus of Sun Moon University.

The crises facing humanity at this time are formidable and challenging on a number of levels. While, on the one hand, there has been a marked rise in human awareness of the problems we face, on the other hand, there are weaknesses in our efforts to address these problems, including a lack of clarity and consensus on the best way to achieve solutions. Furthermore, even in cases where clarity and consensus are achieved, there may be a lack of collective will, not to mention shortcomings in current institutional structures at the local and international levels.

Humanity is at a turning point. Our times call for creative thinking and courageous leadership. For this reason, we are convening leaders representing all professional fields, nationalities, religions, cultures and races, not only to deliberate respectfully, but to move forward with determination and to take action to resolve current crises.

The IIFWP Assembly 2003 will bring together a wide range of leaders including principals actively involved in the IIFWP's initiatives for peace. The goals for this Assembly include:

1. To further develop and refine innovative approaches to peace, in particular the proposal to establish an interreligious council at the United Nations.

2. To demonstrate a collaborative model of good governance throughout our sessions, and to assess the value, applicability, and relevance of such a model for a wider framework.

3. To develop a plan of action responsive to the critical issues of our day ? HIV/AIDS, conflict and violence, poverty, family breakdown, etc. ? and to clarify the kind of institutional structures that are needed to assure successful implementation of this plan of action. This plan of action includes the following projects and goals:

• HIV/AIDS Prevention
• Renewal of the United Nations through the Establishment of an Interreligious Council
• Middle East Peace Initiative
• The Korean Peninsula: Toward Peaceful Unification
• Family Based Literacy Initiative
• Sustainable Development
• Good Governance Initiative
• To develop the vision, commitment and capacities of IIFWP's global leadership, the Ambassadors for Peace.
• To strengthen, develop capacities of, and provide tools for the international, regional and national-level IIFWP leadership, as well as Ambassadors for Peace worldwide.

Assembly 2003 will be a key component of the World Culture and Sports Festival 2003. WCSF was initiated in 1988, dedicated to the establishment of a "new culture of peace." WCSF 2003 is the 9th in a series. Other core components of WCSF 2003 are the Interreligious Peace Sports Festival, the Interreligious World Peace Blessing, and the annual Convention of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles. Participants in Assembly 2003 will be able to attend some of the other events of WCSF 2003.

It will be our honor to have you as our guest at Assembly 2003. Your participation will add greatly to the substance, fruitfulness and successful outcomes of this meeting. We expect IIFWP's Assembly 2003 to add significantly to our momentum and ability to serve a world in need.

Please send your completed registration form by email to the IIFWP Secretariat at assembly2003@iifwp.org or send by fax to 914-631-1308. If you handwrite the form, please be sure to use black ink and print very clearly. Our direct Assembly Services Hotline is 914-631-8681 should you have any questions or concerns regarding the invitation process.

Go World Inc., the conference travel agency, will do its best to help those needing to make air travel arrangements. Please indicate on the form whether you wish to have Go World handle your travel arrangements or if you prefer to make your own travel arrangements. Complimentary air travel is based on roundtrip, economy class travel from participant's country of residence to Inchon International Airport.

The IIFWP will provide your meals, hotel room, and scheduled refreshment breaks during the course of the Assembly. Participants are responsible to pay for food and drink outside of scheduled meals and refreshment breaks. Participants are also responsible for incidentals such as room service, telephone charges, etc.

IIFWP will provide roundtrip ground transportation from Inchon International Airport to the conference site. IIFWP does not provide transportation from the participant's residence to their home airport.

This conference will be conducted primarily in English. Please let us know if translation into another language is required.

Participants are responsible to arrange their own travel insurance. The IIFWP is not responsible for loss of private property or for personal medical conditions.
