Dear leaders,
Following is a request to our members for support for the Native American Leadership Alliance (NALA) and its Peace Pole project, being developed in conjunction with the Middle East Peace Initiative. Could you forward this appeal to any members who you think might be able to help?
Thanks,
Jim Flynn
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As you may recall, fifteen Native Americans from as many tribes throughout the U.S. and Canada, participated in September's IIFWP Pilgrimage to Israel. Both President Yasser Arafat and the Jewish mayor of Jerusalem wept as they received the Native American delegation and their blessings. After a ceremony at Yad Vershem, a stream of Holocaust survivors came to the conference hotel in the middle of the night for prayers and healing. Many taxi and bus drivers were waiting at the hotel for prayers of protection when Native leaders departed at 4 am. The Native Americans had a greater impact than we could have imagined. (You can view photos from that journey at http://nalacircle.org/Jerusalem9-11.htm and at http://nalacircle.org/YadVashem.htm.) This effort, I am proud to say, was made possible through the generous donations of American brothers and sisters.
The Native American Leadership Alliance (NALA) was formally launched at a ceremony in Washington DC immediately after the pilgrimage, with the MEPI delegation as its core leadership . This was at the time of the dedication of the National Museum of the American Indian. Many Native Americans attended the December 2004 ALC in Washington DC, which included a special NALA workshop. They participated as well in the Dec. 13th Crown of Peace ceremony; at that banquet, the American Family Coalition's gift to True Parents was presented by Native American leaders - Korean War veterans Fred Simpson of the Klingit Tribe and Clay and Anita Two Bears of the Oglala Sioux. They made True Parents smile.
With your support, Gayokla Nichi, our brother of the Blackfoot tribe, Eddie McCray (Navajo), Chief Dr. Robert Joseph (Kwagiulth), George Akeen (Cheyenne) and several other members of the Executive Council of NALA have done an outstanding job to build NALA and promote reconciliation and peace. Basic information on NALA is available at www.nalacircle.org.
NALA has taken on an ambitious project for peace in the Holy Land that will move the heart and conscience of the world. NALA is partnering with Jewell Praying Wolf James and the House of Tears Carvers to build Peace Totem Poles for Jerusalem. This 'Healing the Family of Abraham' Peace Pole project will cross the U.S. with meetings at various destinations, receiving blessings from Native American leaders and also Rabbis, Pastors and Imams in your communities. The Poles will then cross the ocean and pilgrimage from Gaza to Jerusalem, finding their permanent site in Israel.
As the first step in this great journey, a delegation of five Native American leaders, including Jewell James the master carver, will go to the Middle East to do the research, prayers and ceremonies necessary to launch this project. We need to raise $10,000 right away to finance this foundational trip that is taking place at the end of March. Jewell has agreed to give an original signed print entitled 'Red Cedar Owl' to each person who donates $1,000 or more. These are beautiful works of art in the tradition of Northwest American Indians.
In order for our country to fulfill the elder son role in the providence, our own history needs to be reconciled and healed. Let us continue our attitude of ownership as the Elder Son nation and support our Native American brothers and sisters in this critical reconciliation work. To make a pledge of any amount, please email to donate@nalacircle.org, or call Joe Wakaria at (202) 636-2873. Thank you in advance for your support.
May God bless you,
Jim Flynn
