Blessing 1998
(From a memo to North American Regional Directors, State Leaders, Tribal Messiahs; from Dr. Tyler Hendricks)
Brief History Of The Family Federation For World Peace And Unification
On May 3, 1994, the Family Federation for Unification and World Peace (FFUWP) was established by True Parents with the purpose to develop the grassroots community of all blessed couples and expand the blessing.
The direction was that HSA-UWC bring people to the blessing, and after the blessing all blessed couples are members of FFUWP. This meant that people learn DP first, then receive the blessing and enter into a family-centered organization.
Father said that FFUWP should have as its vice-presidents the leaders of HSA, WFWP and IFVOC (ACC). Also, Father said that the Blessing Family Department and Second Generation education should be taken out of HSA-UWC and placed under FFUWP.
In 1995, FFWUP was incorporated in America as a 501(c)(3) organization. Farley Jones was made president and Tyler Hendricks (HSA), Nora Spurgin (WFWP) and Michael Smith (ACC) were made vice-presidents. Later Father designated the Continental Director as Secretary General of the organization. FFUWP leadership was named in most states.
Then at the end of July, 1996, the Family Federation for World Peace (FFWP) was inaugurated as a major public organization on the world level. This event gathered world leaders in Washington, DC, including former presidents Bush and Ford, Coretta Scott King, Dr. Ralph Reed and many others. Here the second purpose of the organization was announced: to be a global forum for marriage and family education, service and advocacy, working with the government, media, education and so forth.
By 1997, FFWP International was incorporated in Washington, DC, under Rev. Kwak. It is now a 501(c)(3), with offices in DC, New York (near the UN) and Seoul. The Directors are: Rev. Kwak, Mr. Yoshida, Mr. Farley Jones, Dr. Hendricks and Mr. Salonen.
Father clarified the official English translation as FFWPU, not FFUWP or FFWP. Both the international and national organizations have changed their names accordingly.
