1) CEO MINISTRY LEADERSHIP TRAINING

This report was circulated by Jim Stephens (UTS’77) in October:

"I again attended the free CEO Ministry Leadership Training. This time I went out to Columbus, Ohio, to attend, a 6 and a half hour drive.

Four of our members from the Columbus area attended on Friday: Chris Rood, Marquis Van De Mark, Robert Becker, and Aye Jin Masuda. All of them had an excellent experience. I'm hoping to hear a few good words from them soon about it. But I believe that all could agree that the presenter Dr. Dean Radtke has been guided by God. The material he is teaching is a God-send to us in the Unification Movement.

On Saturday, additional members that attended from Columbus were Andre Reese, Sumiko Van De Mark, Clair and Hiro Masuda (BC's).

Dr. Radtke spent 47 years in business building corporations from $5 billion to $25 billion companies. He also build one of the largest ministries in Columbus from $5 million to $50 million after he was called by God.

During the training I felt that this is the greatest gift we could give to our ACLC ministers, Ambassadors for Peace, and even business leaders that we know. If they go to this training and can double or triple their ministry in the next couple of years, all of that will be a benefit to them and to True Parents as well. This is a win-win opportunity. Please tell them about it. You won't regret it.

Go to the following website to sign up. Use my name (Rev. Jim Stephens) as a referral. www.ministryinstitute.org

(Also, look there for the Spring, 2006 schedule)

Here is the training schedule for the remainder of Fall, 2005. Remember, it's free.

November 11-12, 2005
Seattle, Washington (Everett)

Dr. Radtke already knows me. The more people I send to his workshop, the more he will take notice of our movement. Be sure to introduce yourself to him during a break.

We all need to upgrade our leadership skills every day so that we can be more and do more for True Parents.

People like Dr. Radtke, who have a proven track record, are being guided by God to offer their ministries and become our mentors. Let's take advantage of it."

God bless you.
Jim Stephens

Saturday, November 12th 11am – 1:30 pm Unification Theological Seminary All brothers and sisters, UTS alumni, family and friends are invited to join in celebration of Dr. David S. C. Kim's 90th birthday on November 12 at UTS from 11 am to 1:30 pm. The celebratory program includes entertainment and a delicious lunch.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, November 9th to Susan Hermann 845-752-3000, ext. 238, or shhananim@yahoo.com

Dr. David Kim began his tenure as the UTS founding President in 1975, and served with distinction for 19 years. Dr. Kim is best remembered for his effervescent spirit and loving personal guidance to the students and faculty. The 90th Birthday will provide an opportunity for all those whose lives David Kim touched to offer back their love, stories and congratulations.

We look forward to sharing this special time with you.

Dr. David S. C. Kim announced that on his 90th birthday, material gifts are not what he desires, but rather to leave a legacy.

The gift that would be most meaningful to him would not be flowers, clothes or any material things, but rather financial contributions for causes that he champions for the future.

The tireless UTS President Emeritus has three projects close to his heart for the sake of the future. He is carrying these out through the Board of Directors of the International One World Crusade (IOWC).

One is the purchase of "won jun" (cemetery) plots to the north of UTS at the "Red Church cemetery. The IOWC has purchased a large section of the cemetery and is in the process of paying off this purchase. Dr. Shawn Byrne, his son Andrew, Grandma Sarah Witt and local area member Thomas Conneally are interred at this site, which will become a major American won jun.

A second is a monumental stone memorial seven and one half feel in height inscripted with God's words to humankind. Dr. Kim compares it with the Ten Commandments inscripted on the rock.

The third is the preservation and restoration of the first Unification Church center in America, located in Portland, Oregon. Caretaker Randolph Remmel is expected to be in attendance at the birthday celebration.

Dr. Kim informs us that those who gather to celebrate his birthday this Saturday will be able to view a 30-minute segment of a new video that portrays a major portion of his ministry in America. The video contains amazing historical footage, and is entitled, "Let Us Celebrate Our Past and Look Forward to the Future." The entire video is 2 hours long. A contribution for the above causes of $40 or more will entitle the donor to a free copy of this historical video. Such a contribution would be, in Dr. Kim's view, the best possible birthday present he could receive.

Contributions by check should be made out to "IOWC" and are tax-exempt. Those unable to attend may wish to send a this gift to Dr. Kim in care of Susan Herrman at UTS, 30 Seminary Drive, Barrytown, NY 12507. We also welcome cards or e-mails expressing best wishes to Dr. Kim on his 90th.

6) DR. HENDRICKS PUBLISHES THEOLOGICAL AFFIRMATIONS

On Nov 1, the President of UTS publicly announced his Personal Theological Affirmations.

His commitment to Christ and core elements of Christian dogma will set a benchmark for Christian-Unification dialog.

Hendricks, a graduate of UTS (R.E. diploma, 1978) and Vanderbilt University (M.A. and Ph.D. in Religion, 1979, 1983), was brought up in the Presbyterian Church and comes from a long line of Presbyterians on both sides of the family. He has always felt it meaningful that Reverend Moon's background is Presbyterian as well as Korean Confucianist.

Hendricks himself did not confirm in the Presbyterian Church due to doubts on its relevancy to society's issues in the mid-sixties. A spiritual search ensued, taking him through Zen Buddhism, Yoga, Scientology, the nascent west coast "Jesus" culture, various neo-Hindu movements and finally back for a visit to his childhood church, St. John's Presbyterian on Berkeley's College Avenue. It was the Moon community in Oakland California, however, that brought these strands together philosophically, spiritually and socially. Led by the Holy Spirit to Reverend Moon, he discovered the truth of the gospel and the living power of God to redeem fallen humanity from sin and give new life.

Hendricks's post-conversion theological views were honed through intensive study of Father Moon's teachings, in addition to his doctoral studies on the history of Christian thought and American evangelical Charles Finney. The landmark expressions of faith in Paul, Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Edwards, Newman and Kierkegaard had seminal impact.

In his graduate student days at Vanderbilt, the Catholic student ministry shaped his piety. He has also been deeply moved by the spirituality of Black Christians and the mega-churches he at times visits. A lover of Christian rock, he nonetheless is inspired by his current re-encounter with C. S. Lewis. "I want to keep my mind open to new expressions of God's Spirit," he says, "but there are certain truths that will never change."

Personal Theological Affirmations

1. I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth, eternally existent in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2. I believe the Bible to be the Word of God.

3. I believe that our first ancestors, Adam and Eve, were created to become the God-centered True Parents of all humankind, but that the fall prevented their fulfilling God’s will.

4. I believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the second Adam, bridegroom and savior, in his sinless birth, his perfect life, his miracles, his atoning death through his shed blood, his resurrection, his ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his return in power and glory.

5. I believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit, the Bride of Christ.

6. I believe that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the True Parents who give spiritual rebirth and eternal life to all who receive their Word and live in it.

7. I believe that Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon are the True Parents called by Jesus and the Holy Spirit to give physical rebirth through the marriage Blessing, that this is the core messianic, salvific and kingdom-building mission of this age, and that through this Blessing all husbands and wives are empowered to be True Parents.

8. I believe in the holy apostolic church, the communion of the prophets, saints and sages of all faith traditions, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the coming Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.

8) LEADERSHIP WEEK PROPOSAL FROM MASSACHUSETTS UTS ALUMNA

Annie Hapeman says:

"Several weeks ago, I established Peace Week in my village; delivering 400 flyers encouraging folks to send out thoughts of healing love to people in the Middle East and in North and South Korea... Such a tiny, wimpy effort on my part...but in the next couple of weeks, there were similar calls made by other groups throughout the valley. I'd like to propose LEADERSHIP WEEK...praying and meditating and visualizing all leaders, whether of the church, the country, the village, the family, the work place, etc...that all leaders be forgiven and blessed with tears of humility in front of God." She welcomes your feedback. Annie Hapeman (UTS’80) may be reached at annieteekski@yahoo.com

9) THE YOUNG OON KIM MEMORIAL EVENING: "WE HAD FAITH, NOW WE HAVE HOPE" The Young Oon Kim Memorial Evening was held in Washington DC, October 16, 2005. Dr. Young Oon Kim touched countless lives and made a lasting impact on the development of the Unification Movement, not just in the US, but in many countries around the world. Almost 100 people, connected in heart through this uniquely influential woman, gathered in Washington, DC to remember and honor her. It was an evening of dipping into the riches of the past and looking forward to the hope of the future.

Along with presentations by Mr. Farley Jones (UTS'78) and Dr. Lonnie McLeod, testimonies and "defining moments" were shared creating a wonderful atmosphere of appreciation and family. Three people in particular, Mr. A. Ferrantello (UTS'83), Mr. Tom Picard and Mr. Farley Jones received awards in appreciation for their outstanding achievements and service.

Rev. Michael Jenkins (UTS'77) raised questions about the future of our 2nd generation, emphasizing the need for a common vision and the role of UTS in their formation and education. The Young Oon Kim Scholarship Fund was successfully launched, the proceeds of which will provide financial support for 2nd generation who will study at UTS, and return to serve their sponsoring community after graduation. Christine Edwards (UTS'84) , from Oregon, shared how Dr. Kim will be featured in the "Walk of Heroines" section of the Interfaith Friendship Garden project at Portland State University due to the efforts of their local WFWP organization.

The program ended on a joyful note as we danced to live music performed by Dan Fefferman and his band, with special renditions by Patsy Casino (UTS'83) and Dr. Tyler Hendricks (UTS'78). Robin Musiol (UTS'85) wove the strands of the program together as an embracing and witty Em Cee. "UTS doesn’t seem so far away now you’ve been here and we’ve worked on this event together," she said. She summarized the benefits of the event by adding, "We had faith in UTS, now we have hope."
