The Words of David S. C. Kim |
UTS Alumni, Staff and friends gathered with Emeritus President, Dr. David S. C. Kim, to celebrate his 96th lunar birthday at the Orient Buffet on Dec. 14th. Present were 40 yr. honoree guests, Dr. Edwin and Marie Ang, who served in his administration when UTS was founded in 1975.
The event was offered by Master of Ceremony, Laura Brooks, with the traditional reading of The Letter from God, Family Pledge and the True Love Pledge. Chaplain Donna Ferrantello gave a prayer for the dinner and sang a Christian hymn by 19th century poet, Christina Rosetti, entitled "In the Bleak Midwinter." Alumnus Gerry Servito followed by singing an original song he composed, "First Home Church," that he had also offered to True Father (see lyrics below).
Laura Brooks then read a heartwarming letter of commendation sent by Dr. Col. Bo Hi Pak for Dr. David S. C. Kim's greatest life achievement of being in the first disciple group of our beloved True Parents and serving as a first pioneer missionary to America, the founding president of UTS and the founder of Congress of World Religions who lead IOWC and Rose of Sharon Press in America. All enjoyed Dr. Kim's expressive traditional "briefs" in which he spoke about True Parent's role as Father and Mother to humanity.
The event concluded with each guest reading the Chinese fortune cookie. Guests included: Dr. Edwin and Marie Ang, Laura and Rebeccah Brooks, Sam Gherberial, Cliff and Claire Yasutake, Dr. Donna Ferrantello, Gerry and Minchuan Servito, Chris Ching, Yuichi and Dr. Jennifer Tanabe, Susan Herrman, Barry Felig, Sunhee Davies, Joe O'Connell and Kevin Brennan, who also came all the way from Florida for the 40th Honorees banquet.
One day He said "It's no good alone,
I think I need a
family and a home,
To share the things I'm feeling inside my
heart
I need some one to be
A child, a companion to Me.
I want him to look as I do
So I think that I'll have to make
two
Who will be to each other an answer
To this longing in the
soul
For the half who will make life whole
Through each other they'll understand
How to give and receive
all they can
Until one special day when love will give them
young
And through children of their own
They will understand My
soul….
And I want to live in their hearts
That's the
home I want to be welcome in
No cathedrals musty and dark
But a
garden where we'll share our lives
As kin….
And in their image I'll form
All creatures and worlds yet
unborn
But as fine and as vast as these things shall be
I have
but one end in mind:
The joy that we're going to find!
And once love has finally begun
It's the one thing that will
always live on
So though many things in these worlds may
pass,
These children born of Me,
They always will grow,
And
they always will be!
And I want to live in their hearts
That's the home I want to be
welcome in
No cathedrals musty and dark
But a garden where
we'll share our lives
As Kin….
Yes, I'm going to live in their hearts
That's the home I'm
going to be welcome in
No cathedrals musty and dark
But a world
where we'll share our lives
As kin….
How I long to live in their hearts!
