This is the first of two excerpts from a sermon given at Belvedere on July 17, 1994.

The passing away of President Kim Il Sung of North Korea is very important. It is a turning point in the dispensation of God.

Today, I will explain about the spiritual background and internal meaning of the death of Kim Il Sung, so that you will clearly understand where we stand in history and know how God, True Parents and the dispensation on earth will move toward victory.

Actually, Father predicted that Kim Il Sung would die sometime before September. I strongly remember Father's prediction. Also, very interestingly, this newspaper reported that many other people had predicted his death. This one article here, the authors name is Shon Suk Woo, one of Korea's famous spiritualist. He really knew what was going on in this world, what will come. He wrote one book, entitled Tuh. It's meaning is, "foundation" or "land." This is one of the bestsellers of the year in Korea. He predicted that former President Park would be assassinated before it actually happened. His prediction was made two days before Park was killed.

In this book, he also predicted President Kim Il Sung would die before September. Actually, this Shon Suk Woo is part of our family.

For me, the death of Kim Il Sung made me very uneasy. Yesterday, and the day before yesterday, I was very uneasy because, personally, I was directly affected by him. During the Korean war, my family, my tribe and myself, listened to the big destruction caused by North Korea and Kim Il Sung's military as it attacked South Korea and my hometown. They really destroyed my family and tribe-many of them died. So, Kim Il Sung is personally my enemy. Of course, it is amazing that he is the Cain-side true parents. Even though he is like this, we learned through God and True Parents about True Love, that we must give forgiveness and reconciliation.

We can imagine True Parents in Alaska-how much Father's and Mother's heart aches in sadness concerning the life of Kim Il Sung, that so many people are still suffering under his regime in North Korea, and that people from all over the world have suffered because of him. Especially, Kim Il Sung tried so many times to kill Father. You know, in 1948 he put Father in jail for three years. For three years in North Korean concentration prison camp, Father's life was threatened, and he almost died. Furthermore, Father's life was at risk even in South Korea and America. Kim Il Sung sent assassins to kill Father. So, for Father, Kim Il Sung is really the worst enemy of enemies.

Also, Kim Il Sung caused so many bad problems for our Unificationist missionaries throughout 160 nations and the world. Not just for our True Parents. Kim Il Sung has government diplomats working all over the world. Also, just as we did missionary work in 160 nations, they did something similar. Kim Il Sung believed his Juche ideology was the ultimate solution for world peace and happiness. He really believed this was the answer for people. All these diplomatic members were actually missionaries for Kim Il Sung. They were all over the world spreading their ideology through movie films, booklets and other ways; they always witnessed all over the world! They definitely made trouble for our missionaries. Kim Il Sung really was our enemy.

However, today, we need to open our heart and mind, centered on True Love. We need to give forgiveness and love to Kim Il Sung. If God gives him forgiveness and we embrace him, then he really will stand on our side and walk with us. If so, then before the year 2,000, the Kingdom of True Parents will come.

I heard so many news stories saying Kim Il Sung was strong and healthy even though he was eighty-three years old. The entire North Korea medical team was researching and supporting his health. The most important government department in North Korea was the one meant to protect Kim Il Sung's health. They brought techniques, equipment and medical supplies from all over the world, whatever could support his life longer.

I have never seen our True Father receive a medical doctors' help, not in his entire life. He manages his health himself. Sometimes, even True Mother and East Garden staff say, "Ahh, True Father, we know of a good doctor. Do you want to visit him? Do you need help?" Father responds, "No, no. I know my health, I know how to take care of myself. I'm okay, I can manage. Thank you." Father always has taken care of himself.

When Kim Il Sung died the other day, I really felt God is powerful-and the True Parents are powerful-and God's dispensation will come on schedule, His kingdom will come. His victory will come. That was really my strong conviction which I received after Kim Il Sung's death.

If Adam and Eve had not fallen, the entire human history would have centered on God. Human history should have the same direction, standard, quality, and principle. This is our destiny.

Unfortunately, Satan invaded. God could not have dominion over this human history. This was Satan's dominion instead. This history is 6,000 years long, even many millions of years long and is completely filled with darkness - it is satanic. People kill each other without reason, hate each other, mistrust each other; and so many are selfish, ignoring the poor, just seeking after riches and power. There are also racial problems and national division-black, white and yellow and Indian and Eskimo and all Chinese, Korean and Japanese; they are all separated and trying to kill each other. This is the history of mankind. It is filled with such conflicts.

How is this false, satanic love-power working? Through the lineage. Lineage flows through the generations, going down generation after generation.

Your lineage came from where? Your parents. Where did your parents inherit their lineage? Their parents, their great-grandparents, their great-great-grandparents-all the way back to Adam and Eve. Whose lineage did Adam and Eve receive? God's lineage? No! Satan's lineage.

God's lineage cannot work. Satan's lineage works instead. So, humankind hate each other and kill each other. They mistrust and created divisions; fighting and stealing, oppressing one another. This is such a painful, shameful background; our human history. The general root of all this is Satan and his fallen love, life and lineage.

Why? Why do we die? Why do we separate from God? Why can't we proudly stand in front of God? If we do stand in front of God, why are we so ashamed? Why? Because we have a satanic lineage. This satanic lineage makes us very bad. It causes us to have bad desires, conscience and motivation; so many bad, weird dreams. Everything is coming from this satanic lineage.

Our 6,000 years-six million years-of human history, struggle, darkness and pain, came from Satan. Satan's work, Satan's dominion-how did Satan use his dominion? Through satanic life, lineage and love. God must restore this life, lineage and love and bring it back to the original ideal. So God sent Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago, but he was killed. Jesus Christ's complete mission could not be fulfilled. So God promised the Second Coming. This is our True Father's and True Mother's role. At the time of True Father's appearance on earth, in the year 1920, the entire world and cosmos belonged to Satan. It was in darkness.

True Father came through a small seed from God. When Satan looked down at such a small seed, he laughed, "Ha, ha, this seed is too small." Compared to Satan's dominion of the nation, world and cosmos, the seed of True Father appears small. Satan thought such a seed was nonsense, that it would not work and so was not afraid. Satan believed he was winning and was still the champion.

In Korea I came from a farmer's background, so I know farming. We put the seed underground in early spring. Sometimes the weather is unpredictable in early spring, so much snow, rain and ice comes and makes it so difficult. But underground, this seed, this powerful new life, must overcome such bad weather conditions. Though, the soil may be bad, full of stones and other things, the seed still grows.

When True Father was born in 1920, Korea had completely lost nationhood. Korea came under the occupation of Japan. It lost its national power and Japan took over Korea. All Korean people were miserable, as if they were put in prison. They were put under Japanese military occupation. They lost their language, even lost their name. In this kind of difficult circumstance, Father was born.

My ancestors had to change their name. They could not use "Pak" as their family name. If they did not change their name, my ancestor's children were not allowed to attend school. This is how it was. The school could not accept the children. They had to change their name to a Japanese style name, then they would be accepted in school. My ancestors changed their name to "Oyama."

When this seed of God-True Father-this smallest seed appeared on earth, can you imagine how difficult it was? In the 1920's, the Korean people demonstrated for the independence of Korea. But the Japanese military power killed so many Korean young people. Then they even killed the last Korean king at that time. The queen as well.

Yakuza, the Japanese mafia, came to the King's Palace in Seoul, and they used this kind of knife to kill the king. At that time, Korea was completely miserable. You have no idea how powerful this evil is. Behind this bad power is who? Satan. Not the Japanese military power. I'm talking about the entity behind the Japanese military power. I'm talking about Satan. We need to be concerned with this point.

I tell you all this because this is Satan's last effort to destroy and cause trouble for this new heavenly seed of God. He wants to prevent the heavenly sprout from growing and coming into Spring. Satan really worked hard.

Kim Il Sung, Cain-side true parents, was born 1915. His age difference to True Father is five years different. This makes him Cain. Cain is the elder, right? He was born five years earlier. Also, Kim Il Sung's family was strongly Christian. Especially on the mother's side, they were strong Christians. Also, Kim Il Sung's father belonged to the Korea Independence movement. In fact, the father died by the Japanese power. So, Kim Il Sung's entire family background was Christian. As well, they were royal-royal Korean.

Kim Il Sung went out to Manchuria when he was thirteen years old. This was when he was in junior high school. He moved out from the Korean peninsula and started school in Manchuria. After his father died, he joined the Independence movement, but that of the communist party. It was connected with the Chinese Communist Party. He became a soldier of the communist independence movement.

Kim Il Sung was a brilliant person, very smart. Because he is the satanic true parent, he is an amazingly brilliant person. Also, he has so much fortune too. Special power protects him. He ruled North Korea for how long? For fifty years. Can you believe it? Nowhere else in the word has there been one dictator who lasted for fifty years. No one. Even today, now that Kim Il Sung died, the entire people of Pyongyang and North Korea are crying and mourning, day and night. Even laborers, workers, store managers, whatever, are now crying. The entire Pyongyang and North Korea has now stopped, no one is working. He had so much power.

Please do not think Kim Il Sung was like Castro in Cuba or Honniker in Eastern Europe; he was a very different person. He was the satanic true parents. Don't think he was like a normal dictator. He had an amazing spiritual background and power. Entire North Korea called him "father." Day and night they said, "Father Kim, Father President Kim Il Sung."

You can see that Kim Il Sung was the Cain-type, satanic, true parents. He was from a strong Christian background and from royalty. True Mother and True Father were also from strong Christian backgrounds. Father also joined Korea's Independence movement and received strong persecution. They are the same type. But Kim Il Sung worked in the Independence movement with the communist, while Father worked with the God-centered independence movement. That was their difference.

The real starting point was 1945. Korea's independence was won. But still, at that time, True Father was a single man. So God prepared Korea, America, Japan, France, Germany and all the Christian world. The Christian power won the Second World War and the world had to accept the second messiah, True Father. This was very important preparation. But the power of Satan was working all over the world. The world was very disconnected. While Father was still single, Kim Il Sung dominated the entire North Korea. How old do you imagine Kim Il Sung was? He was thirty years old.

At thirty years of age, Kim Il Sung became the ruler of North Korea. He was the smart one, especially, because he used the power of Russia and China.

Russia thought North Korea would be a satellite nation and wanted to be involved in establishing the ruler. Russia was very concerned about the candidates. The question was: Who would be the ruler? There were many candidates. Among them all, most were more popular than Kim Il Sung. Even Stalin-Josef Stalin, ruler of the Soviet Union-did not think it would be Kim Il Sung. Many other people thought likewise. But Kim Il Sung destroyed the other candidates and then securely connected to Stalin and he became the ruler.

Just thirty years old, yet he had so much leadership and political power; and he knew how to move, influence and control international politics; and do diplomacy. He was a genius.

At that time, our True Father lived in North Korea. Kim Il Sung could easily put him in jail and cause so much trouble. It was a difficult time for Father. During this period, Kim Il Sung had taken over the entire North Korea and Father was put in prison. This meant Father could not work. Though Father is God's representative, the Messiah on earth, still, he was in prison and could not do anything. That was the era of 1945.

Throughout that time, until this year 1994, Kim Il Sung was the ruler of North Korea. He was the one who made the Korean War. That was in 1950. He went to Stalin and said, "Mr. Stalin, please help me, give me tanks, fighter planes, guns, ammunition and the unification of Korea will be no problem. Please trust me." Stalin said okay and he helped. The Korean War began, June 25th, 1950. Within the first three months of the Korean War, when Kim Il Sung attacked South Korea, how many people were killed or died? Three million people! In just three month! But I was at that time physically 7 years old.

My experience with these three months of Kim Il Sung's regime was a complete nightmare. It was the kingdom of horror. If I give a testimony of these three months, I need many days. Three million people died. How did these three million people die? Because the North Korea soldiers came killing; and the United Nation's armies' planes were bombing. The planes did not know who was communist and who was not. They just bombed, burned us out. This was how the three million people died.

One day suddenly in my hometown while I was staying at my grandfather's farmhouse, the war began. My grandfather was an educator, a teacher. He had been a principal, but retired and lived on his farm. He had a very good farm.

My whole tribe lived in my grandfather's hometown. Of course, there were other tribes too, like the Kim's family, Pak's family, living there. These other families were completely centered on Confucius and Buddhism, this tradition; they were really pure and religious. Younger people respected elders. Elders were always guiding and teaching the younger ones. Man and woman relationships were centered on pure love.

When I was in elementary school, my classmates were half boy and half girls. My hometown had many girls. During my first six years of school, I never even talked to one because we were too shy. Though we were classmates, I could not talk to the hometown girls. We were very shy. This made for a very clean and pure atmosphere. We were not rich, but we always helped each other. There were no thieves; no stealing. People had small property, they were hard working, they lived from the result of their harvest; they were sincerely living and surviving like this.

When Kim Il Sung's military took over South Korea, including my hometown area, they assigned poor people to various civic positions: "You are mayor, you are police chief, you are school principal, you are clergy, you are postal officer." Suddenly, untrained and uneducated people became the rulers. They were told: "This is your time. All rich, educated people are you enemy. Because of them, you were poor. Kill them!" They were made to be angry. Resentment was stirred up. As a result, these poor, somewhat uneducated people became crazy. Their thinking became: "Ah-ha! So my unhappiness and my life's difficulty is because of them. Okay, I have to kill them. All sadness and unhappiness is not because of me, but because of them."

Sometimes some of our members are misguided and make a bad atmosphere for our church. These people say, " You should hate your Abel. Because of him we have so much trouble." There are always people like that in our church too. Of course, sometimes we have poor leadership, which causes poor result. But before we accuse our Able figure, we should check ourselves: how much did I unite with my Abel figure, how much did I obey Father's direction? How sincerely did I practice Father's tradition? How much did I do the mission given by Father-day and night?" We need to repent first.

North Korea was mangled. Then suddenly, my hometown became separated. One side supported communism, the other democracy: rich people were for the rich side, uneducated people for the uneducated side, etc. They all became enemies of each other. Then the poor, uneducated people got bamboo sticks and killed the rich people. Suddenly, we were in a nightmare.

I was physically seven years old; from a very good, loving family. They always protected, noticed and cared for me. I never had known a difficult life. I never saw people angry with each other. I had never learned the meaning of hate. But suddenly, the atmosphere changed like this. This is my hometown, my city, my county and nation. They all began to kill each other. Thus, within three months, three million people were killed.

If Kim Il Sung had been able to occupy South Korea for three or six months longer-even one year, probably six to ten million people would had died. You know the Cambodian killing fields? No, even more than that would have died. But God protected Korea.

Why did Korean people have to pay indemnity? To save the True Parents. Because True Father was in prison. He was there for three years. True Father had sacrificed an amazing amount by 1950. So Satan could not destroy the Korea peninsula any further. God sent General MacArthur and the United Nation's soldiers. These unknown soldiers- even from America-did not even know were the Korean peninsula was on the map. They were just teenagers: eighteen, twenty, twenty-one years old. Suddenly, they became soldiers under the flag of the United Nations. They came to Korea. Tens of thousands of United States soldiers sacrificed their lives for Korea's freedom. Until now, South Koreans have not said. "Yankee go back home." They appreciate Americans.

I have been living in America for nineteen years-the whole time as a missionary-I have always been appreciative of America. I love America. I live in New Jersey, in a small corner of town. In the center of town are two small graves. I am always passing this every morning. One soldier is from that town. He died for Korea. His grave is here. As I pass by this grave every day, I say, "Hello, you are my savior. Thank you for your sacrifice for Korea. I have to pay this back to America. Because of your sacrifice, I have to fulfill this." I do this every day.

From Canada, from England, from France, and sixteen nations: these nations offered their young generation and they stood on Father's side and worked for the sake of Korea. Sixteen nation's young generation, they sacrificed.

Three million people died. Even today, after South Korea heard that Kim Il Sung died, they are completely quiet. People are deeply thinking and in tears. South Korea too. Do you know why? In South Korea are many North Korean refugees. (Mother and Father were also refugees of North Korea.) They came down from North Korea. During and after the Korean War, for over forty years, these refugees never saw their hometowns. They don't even know where their physical family is: their father, mother or aunt. They have no idea where.

Forty years ago, many people came down to South Korea. At that time, some were twenty years old, some thirty, fifty, sixty. Those who were sixty are, today, certainly in the spiritual world. People who were twenty years old then, how old are they now? Sixty years old. These first generation of refugees are now almost all in the spiritual world. Some people who now remain are in sorrow day and night. They don't know where their own physical families are. They know how difficult it must be for their relatives in North Korea. Those left behind must deal with persecution. "Oh, because your father is in South Korea, you are our enemy. Okay, you go to prison camp. Go to labor camp." They gave this kind of punishment.

This year, 1950, became a turning point. Father came down to South Korea...After the Korean War was finished, Kim Il Sung was defeated. His satanic dream and his plan did not work. What satanic dreams did he have? He wanted dominion of the entire Korean peninsula. Behind this was the satanic power, Stalin and Russian communist power and international communist power. But it did not work. Because, we know, sixteen nation's soldiers sacrificed for Korea.

After the Korean War finished, the Korean peninsula became destroyed; a country of ashes.

My beautiful hometown has hot springs. I still remember though I was then just seven years old. I would hold my father's hand and we would go to the hot springs. Many beautiful hot springs are over there in my hometown. We escaped from our hometown. When we came back, it was completely burned down. The entire Korea peninsula was like this: disease, hunger, no clothes. When I went back to school, we had no chairs and desks. The North and South Korea soldiers had used them as fire wood for cooking. For many years, I had to sit down on the floor and study like this. We went to school with no food and were very hungry. Many brothers and sisters in America, sometimes Korean leaders too, say, "We are hungry, hungry." You don't understand the real meaning of hunger.

We have a seven day fasting condition requirement, so Unification members understand a little what hunger is. But you don't really know. No clothes. Many diseases. After Korean War, there were so many widows; wives had lost their husbands. Children became orphans because they lost their parents. The entire nation's past is painful.

In 1954, under these circumstances, Father established the HSA-UWC with just five members. But Father told them that he wanted to make the unification of world Christianity. With nothing, just five members and a country of ashes, Father said he was going to make the unification of the world. How crazy this seemed.

In this complete dark atmosphere, Father said, "I will make the unification of the world! I will liberate God! True Love, Life and Lineage, I will make for the world." He announced this-gave a new dream to the world. Can you imagine Father's courage and absolute faith to God in a situation like this? Can you imagine?

But at that time, five members believed Father. One of these members was UTS President David Kim. No matter what, you Unification Church members, you must respect him, appreciate him. He was one of the roots of the Unification Church. A founding member. Under darkness, Father started the HSA-UWC. This was almost an impossible task, an impossible dream. He had no money, no house. Father slept on the street. He went to the Pusan harbor in the nighttime to witness and in the daytime did labor-work.

Today, we think again about Father's absolute faith. We have to inherit this kind of immovable faith. Brothers and sister, if our Unification Church has difficult times, would you like to change your mind or continue and walk with following Father? (Follow Father.) If you promise, please raise your hands. Thank you very much.

We need to look back to 1954. This is now the year of 1994. We had the 40th anniversary of the HSA-UWC this year. This forty year period was the wilderness course. It was the most painful, difficult course. During this time, Father went six times to prison. Even in America, he went to Danbury prison. So many enemies wanted to kill Father. How much of a difficult course did Father have to endure? You know very well. Finally, after forty years, Father demolished communism. The Moscow rally was successful. Communism no longer exists.

During this time, Kim Il Sung really moved to the corner. Then what did he do? He became true parents of North Korea. After the Korean War finished, actually, who was guilty? Kim Il Sung. Who made the mistake? Kim Il Sung. He should have stepped down and resigned. Kim Il Sung should have admitted his mistake and said, "Yes, I am sorry. I killed three million people, I destroyed North and South Korea. Everything was burned out. This painful mistake is because of me. I did it." He should have resigned or committed suicide, whatever. But he was very smart. Those people who thought Kim Il Sung was guilty, he collected them all and killed them. Then he was "not guilty." There was no longer anybody willing to accuse him.

During these forty years, if a business lost money, Father said, "Ahh, this is my mistake." Though it was this department leaders mistake, Father gave new dedication and trust. He always gave like this. But Kim Il Sung, if someone made a mistake, he always killed them or put them in a prison camp. That is the history of the last forty years of his rule. Furthermore, he always wanted to kill Father.

Why was Father put in Danbury prison? Because of the North Korean KGB power. They united together, the American and Korean communist party powers and used the different media to create controversy and misunderstanding about Father. They influenced the public and then got Father put into jail. Kim Il Sung worked like this.
