HARP Report Italy

Mika Kanno
January 2006

In our first official meeting of the new Italian Harp Committee we talked about how our main goal will now be to raise the standard of our HARP. So we discussed about a new way of confronting the problems that might arise. Our national leaders are of the opinion that to spiritually protect those that don’t have problems, we should be stricter towards those who come to workshops without the desire to have a spiritual focus. We talked about the responsibilities of being committee members and we started organizing our God’s day workshop. We decided to mix 2 mottos already done at European workshops but that we find extremely important: HARP SEI TU, PONIAMO LO STANDARD ("You make HARP, let’s set the standard!)

As the first month of our committee responsibility I believe we started out with the right foot. We decided at our first official meeting that we want the Italian blessed children to feel that they have the opportunity to become active, so we started straight away organizing various things.

I think that one of our most important accomplishments was the organization of fundraising weekends. Emmanuel Termine opened up his house to the Harpies that wanted to try out this new experience on the 15th and 16th of October. His parents gave guidance to the participants. There weren’t so many people but we are sure that in the future it will be a great way for harpies to meet and do something a bit "spiritual" together. Emmanuel has already set the dates of the next weekends and we are planning to do one around the middle of each month.

Each Wednesday evening we do a chat meeting of our committee to set goals for the week and this also helps us keep ourselves active and motivated. During these meetings we also decide together mini-conditions to do for HARP and True Parents.

We’ve started a HARP choir, which once a month meets up to practice their songs. They will perform in a nursing home the 21st of December.

Dado has started to re-create the Italian harp web site. He has made it prettier and easier to use for the future leaders that will have to keep it going. For each of our initiatives we are careful to write nice reports for the site so to have people really feel that in Italy we DO do things and that they CAN participate as well. We had a first meeting for Harpies in Milan to try to create more enthusiasm and the feeling of being a group. I feel that it was a great success for those that came, because we really felt like it was a party, being together. I gave a testimony on my experience at the Spanish workshop and showed some pictures. In the afternoon we just had fun together. We hope to continue these meetings.

We’ve created calling groups to keep up the communication with harpies, and our goal this week is to call at least three people in our "group" to know how they’re doing. We’re all very motivated and looking forward to going to see True Parents in Slovenia, the 3rd of November.

Sunday 30th we had another meeting in Milan, with Keimi giving a presentation (SFP, RYS and WAIT). We had the surprise of the visit of an STF KOREA fundraising team. So we had a basketball game, Italy vs. Korea.

A nice month right?
