New Yorker Hotel: Milestone in the Progress of Electrical Engineering

Forward note from Joe Kinney
September 21, 2008

Because of the historical significance of the original New Yorker Hotel Power-Plant this Thursday 25 September the New Yorker Hotel will be declared a "Milestone in the Progress of Electrical Engineering by the IEEE"

IEEE is International Association of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the largest professional association in the world with over 350,000 members.

The International President and other officers of the IEEE, as well as The President and Vice President of the National power Engineers Association will attend along with local politicians and Bre Pettis.

Kevin Smith will give welcoming remarks and I will be one of two keynote speakers. There should be pretty good media coverage. The Newark NJ Star Ledger and 1010WINS news are running spots prior to.

At 8:00 pm local on Friday the 26th the same power-plant will be featured on the premier episode of a new series on the History Channel "History Hackers." The star of the show is Bre Pettis and I will be giving him a tour of the old power-plant and of Nikola Tesla's room.

I hope it all turns out well and that you can watch Friday Night just before the Presidential Debates.

Here is Popular Science Monthly, from April 1930, which describes the original New Yorker Hotel power plant.
